We had a lovely stay in a surprising home in the midst of a residential area of Albury. Our host was most accommodating in providing answers to our inquiries, a fine breakfast, and an introduction to his love of birds in his beautiful garden. We enjoyed the stay very much.

I had the chance to stay in a hotel in Albury that would have probably been more convenient as I didn't have a car but don't regret staying here instead. The walk to the pub for dinner took about 20-30 minutes but was easy. Rob is an interesting guy. If you have any sort of interest in cars/bikes get him to show you his classic car/bikes. A significant segment of the house was added by him a few tears back but totally in keeping with the characterful original. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious. Breakfast was very good. The garden must be a labour of love and is beautiful. Do check it out ahead of any of the hotels.

We would like to add to the well deserved praise for the people, the rooms, the garden, etc. at Briardale. Sitting in the morning watching the birds in the peaceful garden was a joy. The local pub which was recommended by Robert a good place for a meal after a long drive. As others have said Briardale is packed with old world charm, so if that is what you want come here. We did and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Albury can be easily reached from Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra in half a day whereas to drive directly between Sydney or Canberra and Melbourne is demanding to say the least, making this a good place to break the journey and see something of Australia other than cities and roads. The Rutherglen wine region is a short drive away across the Murray offering wineries, restaurants and much more. There are also good walks for all levels of fitness within easy reach.

What's not to like. Like stepping into the elegance of a bye gone era but with all the modern conveniences, and that's before exploring the lovely gardens. The big added plus is that Robert can provide you with an evening meal (and as a former chef he knows what he is doing) . It was nice to stay in after a long day's drive.

Many thanks again Robert and Robyn for making our o so short stay so enjoyable.

Should also mention the lovely comfy bed
