Parklands Motel was very simple but comfortable, and reasonably priced for the area. We were shown to our rooms by the lovely owner and given a map of the area with points of interest pointed out to us. Our room was at the back so there was no street noise to worry about. The hotel is a short walk across the park to the town centre which has cafes, restaurants and shops. The lake is at one the end of the street and the road to Queenstown or Milford Sound is located at the other end.

The room was quiet but when other guests in neighbouring rooms were showering it was very loud in our room. The shower is also a sloping part of the bathroom floor with no lip to contain the water, so although suitable for disabled guests means that water goes all over the bathroom floor if you're not careful.

Near our room was a laundry room with washers and dryers. We found this service useful, cheap and effective.

This was a decent size room, with sliding glass doors so there was a lot of light. There was a small fridge ad an electric kettle in the room, but there was also a large kitchen available to guests as well as a BBQ, so you could cook a large meal if you wanted to. The community kitchen had a large fridge/freezer, stoves, 2 microwaves, dishes, recycling bins, etc. Rooms included wi-fi, good lighting over the bed, a DVD player (there were DVDs available I the office), sufficient electrical outlets, a bench for suitcases, 2 chairs, sofa, coffee table, TV, closet, plenty of blankets and pillows, phone, alarm clock, and a free-standing hair dryer. The owner supplied the first jug of milk upon check-in (about 8 oz.) Also available on the grounds were a guest laundry (which we didn’t use but $2 each, washer and dryer), clotheslines, spa or sauna for an extra charge, and a playground with a trampoline. The property is walking distance to the center of town, through a park and gardens, and there are several restaurants within a 5-15 minute walk. There was a lot of info in the room about restaurants (including actual menus!!), and all sorts of activities – walks, church services, tours, etc. They only supplied one washcloth, although I’m sure we could have easily asked for another. There was no fan in the bathroom, no mirror other than in the bathroom, and the bed I would say was a comfort level of 8 out of 10 – although that is quite subjective and you might love it. I would have liked tissues, an ice cube tray (which the owner said kept disappearing, so he did try), and a small shelf in the shower so I didn’t have to put stuff o the floor. These things are all pretty minor, so I would still recommend this motel.

We stayed here at the end of March for 2 nights and were pleasantly surprised by the modern clean room we had which was quite spacious with a lounge and coffee table as well plus a couple of different teas, coffee and hot chocolate. We got a great deal on booking.com. as we booked only a couple of weeks before the trip since we had to settle on all our travel plans first before booking but you could miss out leaving it this late too! Parking at the door was convenient and beautiful gardens surround so a lovely setting. The owners have put a lot of love and care into the place with little extras in the rooms like a calendar, wall clock, etc. There is also some play equipment for the children in the yard. Quite near town..a short flat walk across the park takes you to the middle of town with lots of restaurants and bars and a supermarket. We were able to buy our own supplies and cook our own meals in the fully equipped communal kitchen and dining area. They even had little extras like salt and pepper and extra tea and coffee there. We did eat out the other night. I think there was also a laundry available but we didn't use it. We took the owners tip on seeing the Fiordland movie in town on the morning we left and saved a little with the voucher given by them. It was a great movie showcasing Fiordland through all the seasons with spectacular scenery so I would definitely make time to go see that as it is much cheaper than a helicopter ride at just $10 per person.
My only disappointment was that our tea and coffee wasn't replentished for the second day when the towels were replaced (but this may have just been overlooked) as they certainly didn't overlook anything else. I could see that the owners have put lots of extra effort into making each guest's stay special which was much appreciated. Thank you.

Room Tip: Seperate fully equipped kitchen with dining area allows you to cook your own food to save on eating...

We booked 2 nights online on Booked.com website.
We arrived and the owner (woman) gave us a completely different room from the room on the website.
Its the only reason why we booked our accommodation there its because we liked the look of the room showed on the website.
The owner (woman) was not willing or interested to help us.
We were put to an uglier room, the door lock doesn't work properly we struggled to locked and unlocked the main door.
1) The dramas didn't end there, the heat pump didn't operate properly the remote control for some reason couldn't read the heat pump so we couldn't control the temperature to how we wanted.
The heap pump had a mind of its own.
(2) There was no fan in the bathroom suck the steam out, we had to open the window in the freezing cold weather to let the steam out.
(3) There was also no heater in the bathroom.
We felt ribbed off by this motel by providing false information/advertisement on Booked.com website and by the standard of their room.
We were definitely over charged for what we got.
We were not impressed, we will never stay here again in the future.

Stayed here for one night on the way to milford sounds. So cheap. And accommodation was clean and very large rooms. Great new bathrooms. Close to town and the lake. The owner was so friendly and was happy to help out with ideas where to eat. Would definitely stat here again. Very impressed.
