“Great Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2012

Great Hotel, fantastic views & very close to Queenstown township. We had a two bedroom apartment which was very spacious with full all amenities except no laundry. However, there is a communal laundry on site , i would have rated the apartment higher if it had its own laundry.
Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and will definately stay here again.

Our 3 night stay in March 2011 at the The Waterfront Breakfree was chosen for it's location and views.
We arrived in Queenstown early morning by plane, and pleased that we were able to check in on arrival to the hotel.
Our apartment was very clean and we were surprised at how spacious it was. The view from the lounge across the lake to the 'Remarkables" is fantastic!
Having stayed a few times in Queenstown, this is the location we like to stay, where it is quiet, and just a couple of minutes walk to the pier and shops. Love this area.
We have previously stayed at the Lodges with the family (which we loved also) and the Ridges, which we found too far away from the action.
The hotel office is maned only during working hours, which was no problem for us, as any information we required we obtained prior to closing time.
The young man who checked us in was very pleasant, and gave us good advice on wine tours and Lake cruises.
I see there are some disappointing reviews of this hotel, and I must say, we were extremely happy with our apartment, and would certainly stay here again. Unfortunately, I can't remember the apartment number. It was above the office area.
Queenstown is truly a beautiful place, our favourite place in N.Z to visit.
For first timers, make sure you go on a lake cruise, also, try a trip on the paddle steamer Earnshaw.
A visit to Arrowtown is also, a must do, along with the cable ride up the mountain.
There are some wondereful places to eat, check out tripadvisor reviews on places to eat, as they are too numerous to mention.
Our stay at The Waterfront Breakfree was great, and we will certainly return next time in Queenstown.

One word....horrid. These apartments are tired to say the least. Very dirty and in need of new everything. Not much in the kitchen cupboards, the cutlery looks as if it was purchased at Woolworths 25 years ago...didn't even want to eat with it. Beds uncomfortable and tiny bedrooms, lounge area a good size. Towels were so discoloured and old......should have been replaced years ago. Would never stay there again. Only good thing about it was the position although noisy with traffic out the front. We had a bedroom window which wouldnt close so hear all traffic noise toilet also dripped constantly.

Room Tip: Ask for a newly refurbished room if there really is such a thing as the others are dreadful. Cant im...

As you will note a few reviews refer to the place being a bit tired and some of the units no doubt fall into this category. The units are privately owned but managed by Mantra. Some units have recently been refurbished and are fantastic. We have stayed they on three trips and have had 2 great units and one older one. On our latest trip we had unit 3 plus studio unit 3a which makes up a three bedroom unit, it was fantastic. You can't specify a unit at time of booking so we have found the trick is to arrive well before the 2.00 o'clock check in and ask the staff to give you a renovated or newer room.
Having said all that, even if you end up with an older unit they are generally clean with all the same facilities and that is a small price to pay for one of the best locations in Queenstown. Across the road from the wharf, 100 metre LEVEL walk from the centre of town and fantastic views.

The location was perfect. 50m to some great restaurants and the main action. Very nice view from the very generously sized room. We had a 2 bedroom unit. There were a few things that detracted from the experience. The cupboards were missing a few things - only 1 bowl. 2 wine glasses. Bathrooms were very nice. Kitchen was a bit run down. Didn't try using the dishwasher as it stank. The front desk is not open beyond normal business hours - but picking up the key was pretty easy from the security box. Parking was a little difficult as it was a first come best dressed situ. We had to park around the corner on a 30 degree hill at one point.
