Great location and not far away from the city center. The staffs are very helpful and friendly. They know a lot about the activities as well as the providers and had been a great help for us. We once asked them about the horse riding choices around the area and they can compare all the pros and cons from the different companies both in Queenstown and Glenorchy! The hostel has lots of connection and so they have many special discounts for diverse activities if you book with them. The kitchen is huge with all functional utensils and machines. There're a lot of dining tables and chairs around. The bathroom is clean, not that perfectly clean since there're tons of guests during a high season, but I'd say they've already done their best.

We got the twin room which way too small with a very small window providing a poor airflow in the room :-( There was a barbecue party or sth on the park in front of the hostel which was going on for almost the whole night, and we could hear everything :-(

YHA Lakefront is well located if you prefer to be away from the noise of partying in town, but only 10 mins walk and right on the shore of the lake. The hostel is clean and functional. However, it lacks the friendly atmosphere of some of the other YHAs I've stayed at - maybe because it's the first one in New Zealand I've stayed at that doesn't seem to have a cat! The dining room feels a bit like a school canteen.
Major positive - high speed wifi! If you're not a YHA member the cost is $10 for 24 hours unlimited.

Room tip: I had a private room on the 3rd floor, which is quite quiet away from the kitchen etc.

I stayed here for 4 nights with a friend and we both loved our stay here.

Although it is a little bit of a walk to the city centre and to the nearest supermarket, it was such a beautiful location on the lake and totally worth it.

The staff were helpful, the cleaners were extremely diligent and the place was always spotless. The kitchen was really well equipped and because I had a YHA membership, I had free internet while I was there, which I have to say, was probably the BEST thing about staying here!!

The staff also gave us really honest opinions about the local attractions, which was really refreshing.

I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed in the double+single bedroom for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay absolutely.

The double+single room has great views of the lake and also a small balcony(shared with another room). The balcony has small bench - good for chilling/ reading a nice novel and enjoying the breeze + view.

Towels are given. Our rubbish bin was cleared everyday (something that we didn't expect).

Counter service was great! We were allowed to check in early as the room was already ready. Sam (receptionist) helped us to book our paragliding and horse riding activities and gave us good recommendations of which company to go to etc. Not forgetting that there are further discounts when we booked from YHA or when we own a YHA card.

Toilets and kitchen were clean. TV lounge was cool with bean bag couch.

Location was good. It is a 10mins walk from main city centre. Which is good cos you are away from the noise and parties at night.

Nice Hostel, location is a strange one, as you sacrifice being in the central location (only 10-15 minute walk away) but you get to be right on the beautiful lake. The kitchen and toilet/shower facilities are good and the reception are helpful. Slight criticism is the walls are really thin in the bedrooms, but fortunately it didn’t seem to attract people who get in at 3am making lots of noise.

Final Review:
Highly recommended, really clean, safe hostel. In great location looking over one of the best views in the world.
