“What a wonderful stay, what a wonderful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 June 2012

I took a 5-day mini-break in the Queenstown/Wanaka region as part of a birthday treat, so the emphasis here was on something a little bit nice, a little bit pampering and a lot bit special. And I got it all and more at The Rees. Lets start with check-in. Seamless, informative and just really personable. I was walked to my loft room, helped with my luggage, shown the amenities and then left to my own devices. The room itself is fantastic and perfect for either the solo traveler like myself, or for a couple. It was one of the Executive Rooms and looked straight out over the lake and the mountains. OK, so there is a bit of a roof underneath you, but that can't be helped because it's high. There are other accommodations, possibly 2 and 3 bedroom, that have balconies with what look like unobstructed views. But back to my room - what a great lay out. I've stayed in Queenstown 3 times, and this is the first time a hotel has taken the opportunity of putting the bed to look directly out of the windows and out onto the mountains. Well done!! It was a joy waking up, opening the curtains and then hopping back into bed to enjoy the view. There are all the usuals - good sized television, minibar, plenty of closet space, an iPod dock - oh, and I forgot to mention that the bed is an extremely comfortable king size with fabulous pillows, one of the best I've slept in. And then there's the bathroom. I had specifically asked for a room with a big bath and I wasn't disappointed - the bathroom is gorgeous, very new and fit my specs perfectly. The bath, a spa bath, was great. The only downside to my stay was a little bit of noise. Firstly caused by my neighbours downstairs - we shared a common entry door, and I later discovered it was a 3 bedroom apartment below me - so anywhere between 3-6 people didn't think anything of doors slamming behind them after 10.30pm at night. But a passing mention to housekeeping the next day resulted in the front desk contacting me and seeking to help - so even that was covered. The staff here are great, from the front desk, through to the bar (who listened to what I said about my preferences for red wine and came up with a great bottle) through to the staff at breakfast. I'm already looking forward to my next visit to Queenstown and to The Rees!

Room Tip: Pay the little bit extra and ask for an Executive Lakefront unit - it's worth it.

We have just returned from 5 days at The Rees. Brilliant hotel, would highly recommend to anyone. The staff were an absolute pleasure, especially Mel at the Concierge desk who arranged all our tours for us. She also recommended places to eat, none disappointed. The courtesy bus staff (which runs into Queenstown & back throughout the day and night) were brilliant. The hotel itself was great, the apartments big enough for families, but also warm and cozy for couples. The views to The Remarkables was awesome. There is a lake front path that runs right into town, takes about 20 minutes to walk. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Definitely get the lake view rooms

We stayed here on our honeymoon in a 3 bedroom apartment (the only one that has both a bath and a fireplace), and we loved it. The view from our room (and the bath) were breathtaking. The apartment was well appointed and well heated (underfloor heating was appreciated). It was very luxurious. I would definitely recommend the Rees for anyone staying in Queenstown for a few days or more.

The staff were very helpful and the service was great. We also visited the restaurant True South Dining and once again the service was fantastic and the food was delicious, with a great local wine list.

The hotel is not located in the heart of Queenstown, but its a small city and it was just a short drive into town (you can also walk in, but it was a bit cold for us). Parking is complimentary.

All in all we had a very enjoyable stay at the Rees. Its not cheap, but its worth every penny.

We stayed for 5 wonderful nights in this great hotel. Our room overlooked the lake and was a high standard. The staff at reception and concierge were very helpful in advising and arranging what to do. While its 5 minutes from the centre of Queenstown it was not a problem. We had a hire car and on site under cover parking was easy but If you don't have a car they have a shuttle service. The chef at the restaurant delighted us with exceptional food. We'd definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Go for a lake view apartment for the best view.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Rees. Loved the luxury atmosphere with beautiful views from our room and awesome location. Along with how spacious the room and the bathroom was, really enjoyed powerful hot showers every morning and nice floor heatings and warm heaters in the room too.

We have received well-rounded excellent service and warm welcome from all the staff at the reception, especially from the concierge who was very helpful and easy to talk to.

Overall we would definately stay at The Rees Hotel & Luxury apartments again~!! :D
