Thoroughly enjoyed our night there. Great host (Peter?), breakfast area, location, etc. Old home tastefully restored and decorated. Each room is different.

Room Tip: I think every room is great. I used the online info.

We used the Classic Villa as our first choice in Christchurch, The George, was fully booked. It is centrally located right on the edge of Christchurch's still closed Red Zone city centre. There is a good choice of restaurants and bars within easy walking distance and is a steady 20 minute drive to the airport.

The property is split into the original Victorian villa with some 4-5 rooms and a fairly modern extension to the rear with 3 or 4 rooms in it. We had a spacious two room suite in the rear modern extension. The rooms were spacious, nicely equipped and quiet. The older villa section appeared to contain standard rooms which seemed rather gloomy with the Victorian wood pannelling. Braekfast is served communally in a large dining room and is pretty average.

The Classic Villa is OK if lacking in ambience. From choice we would stay at Ther George.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a two room suite in the modern extension.

It felt like home walking in the door. This b & b is located half a block from the beautiful botanical gardens and down the street from downtown area. Breakfast was a huge variety of fruits, cereals, rolls, meats, juices, etc. The hosts were very pleasant and accomodating. A warm living room area and outdoor area. They even helped me find a bus companay to go to the coast. I would highly recommend this to someone going to Christchurch.

Room Tip: they do have internet

Stayed for one night.

Pros:

- Quite nice colonial style refurbished villa, nice atmosphere
- Very friendly managers, keen to assist by being proactive
- Centrally located, quite convenient if visiting the city center
- Free internet, although not quite reachable from the rooms located far away from the main lobby

Contras:

- Rooms look a bit tired
- Breakfast was mediocre, could be improved
- Privacy can be an issue, walls are quite thin

The Villa was very quaint and comfortable! The hostess at the time we were there (in November), Nonni, was extremely friendly and accomodating. She was also very helpful in providing suggestions to eat and explore around Christchurch and the surrounding areas that were not impacted by the earthquake.

The food was delicious and nutritious. The cheese selection was great, though a larger warm food selection would've been even more ideal!

We stayed in Room No 1, which was very spacious though it was the furthest from the dining / internet area. The fireplace and heater provided sufficient heat, and the washroom was very clean and neat (the shower is also spacious). Laundry service provided by the B&B was also very convenient as we had travelled for a week already.

Be warned that the Villa is close to the city center core which was heavily impacted by the earthquake, so getting to the hotel with your GPS may be tricky due to blocked roads nearby. The location is ideal otherwise. It is also very close to South Hagley Park, which is also very ideal for runs and walks.

Overall, a very enjoyable stay!

Room Tip: Room 1 is very close to the parking lot; good for moving luggage and getting out of the B&B
