“Good quality with lots of extras”
Reviewed 17 April 2012

I stayed 6 nights 3 in a 2 bedroom suite and then downsized to a 1 bedroom classic. I liked the location, close to the Beehive and very pleasant views to the Botannical gardens with good sound proofing. You can walk almost anywhere in the CBD within 20 minutes.
The lobby provides a nice place to sit with a barista making good coffee. The rooms were spotless and well appointed with full kitchen and laundry and in the 2 bedroom, 2 full bathrooms including a bath. The bedrooms were well spaced apart. I couldn't fault the hotel really, we used the pool, ate night at the restaurant which has typically high prices but was very good and had the most delightful service, and they were happy to accommodate our changing bed needs without question.
I did find the overall temperature quite cool but the room air cons are easily adjustable.
We would stay again.

We stayed one night in Wellington before flying out. The Bolton was the best value hotel in the price range we were looking in. The two Queen beds were comfortable, the room was immaculate, the washer dryer was great as was the drying rack, and the kids loved having a swim in the indoor pool. The service was fast, efficient and discreet. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to other families. The two queen beds were both in the same room, but since we were all tired it didn't matter.

Room Tip: We were on the 7th floor so there was no noise from the road.

Stayed for one night in a classic suit after upgraiding from premier studio. Was a bit dissapointed with room as had a small bed and clashing red carpet. Otherwize nice and comfortable with good bath and kitchen. Would get premier studio or suite with king size bed if staying next time. Also dvd player only in bedroom so you can't watch dvds in the lounge area. Linen and toiletries were good quality.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a king size bed.

We stayed one night in the least expensive room as we stopped over on the way to the South Island. It served this purpose well and was a short (though not inexpensive) cab ride to the InterIslander ferry. The hotel is very convenient to the Botanical Gardens, and you can walk to anywhere of interest in Wellington. Our room was on the small side, but it was comfortable, clean and attractively decorated. We arrived at 9 am and were told that we wouldn't have access to our room until 3 pm unless we upgraded to a more expensive option. This seemed like a scam, since they surely didn't know who might be checking out early. We declined the offer and went out. The their credit, the our room was ready with luggage delivered when we returned at 1 pm. Overall, the service was excellent with a friendly and helpful staff.

The Good:

Got there during Easter holiday break. Welcoming staff. We had booked the 'premier studio'. Room was fantastic, just what we expected from the pictures. Neat, classy and clean. Complimentary cable TV was useful. Good spacious bathrooms.

Gym, pool and sauna accessible until 11pm. We made good use of their neat and clean facilities.

Good range of packages to choose from. Something for everyone's tastes.

TIPS:

Watch out for hidden extras:

1) Parking - a whopping $30/night (don't forget to include this in your budgeting - the reason we picked this hotel was because it was $30 cheaper than the other hotels - kind of beats the point in the end with the parking charge). The least they could do is put this charge up at the time of booking so customers are aware of this. What's worse is that their 'in-room' brochures mention parking charges as $25/night.

2) "Compulsory" valet parking.(no option to save money by doing it yourself)

3) Breakfast - check for inclusions (if you have b/f as a part of your package) - if continental or fully cooked, drinks included or not - if yes which drinks - the exact things you 'don't' want to be bothered about on a holiday. (They wont always warn you before you order, you'll get this syrprise when you pay your bill - shame)

4) We had free internet in out package. My wife and me both have internet enabled devices and they were reluctant to provide two or more passwords for internet (but to their credit - they did oblige and provided us with 2 passwords

Such a pity. Just going by the facilities and staff this is would have been a 5star for me...but for the issues mentioned above.

Room Tip: The studio rooms haven't got washing machines (the website isn't too specific about this) so...
