Last month we went to this rustic style cafe for lunch and we were very impressed with the excellent service we got and the tasty meal. It is a great place to visit especially if you have a car . Plenty of places to park. The cafe is divided into different areas. An outside area, inside and a very nice inbetween area that is sheltered but with a little flowing of fresh area. There is also a heater in this area for the chilly days. What I liked most was the lovely relaxed atmosphere and cheerful service. We had a scallops dish and as a special treat we also had a paua sandwich plus coffee and carrot cake. All delicious.

A perfect spot to stop when cycling the coast around Wellington. Refueled with a
Flat white and chocolate fish. It was fun to watch the children have fun on the various riding toys in the center of the tables.

Nice atmosphere, staff pleasant. However I'm getting tired of cafes going for retro look with old schoolroom type mismatched chairs, scruffy wooden tables, maybe psychedelic paintings on the woodwork, perhaps a glass-topped counter bowl containing a few muffins or red velvet cake - these types of places are getting so hard to distinguish one from the other. They never serve even a fraction of junk food and, like The Chocolate Fish, the burger will be a small, arty object sitting solo on a big plate - I sometimes crave the option of some chips with the likes of a burger. And their small grilled schnitzel sandwich should be between lightly toasted bread, not between two small limp and floppy untoasted pieces of bread. I ordered a hash brown to go with the schnitzel, and that was more money, sigh. For what a customer gets, this cafe is not worth the price. However it's an 'in' cafe so go for it if you want to be thought of as trendy.

Love it here! A quirky old building with different dining options: indoors, outdoors and a heated area with walls and roof. Tucked away in Shelley Bay with trees behind and the sea in front. The food is great with lots of fish options. Had the potato cake and haloumi sandwich - shouldn't work but it does! Great merangues and coffee.

If you have children there is a play area with scooters and bikes. Parking too and lovely sea views. Try it and you will want to go again! Only a short drive from the city with the options to go around the beautiful bays or hop off to the Airport.

Cold and miserable.....so we both oped for a bowl of fish chowder at lunchtime. There was a generous amount of seafood in a lovely creamy rich n tasty sauce, plus croutons, plus 4 pieces of toasted bread. Full of flavour....it hit the spot.
We will be back. I'm told it is extra busy at weekends and fine days, when you can dine outside.
Friendly staff
