Delhi 7 Indian Restaurant and Bar produces the best Indian-style food my wife and I have ever eaten in Wellington. The restaurant's décor is functional, the amenities well-kept, and the service is prompt, friendly and accurate. The portion sizes are well-judged, as is the protein-to-sauce ratio. The dishes themselves have real individuality, with little obvious redeployment of the same gravy, dressed differently, to cover a whole range of menu items. Having said that, the owner makes no bones about informing you if one of your menu selections shares a similar 'flavor profile' with another, but the other staff members are not quite so confident. Ask for guidance, as I'm sure no offence will be taken. Best of all, the well-presented food is absolutely yummy!
Pricewise, Delhi 7 is one small step up from cheap-and-cheerful and deserves to be, and offers BYO wine. Do be a little bit mindful of the cost of the inevitable bits-and-pieces, such as poppadoms ( poppadoms for 5 came to $17-50) and soft-drinks at $4 a glass, as multiples of these can make an otherwise great-value meal, appear to be...otherwise.
Delhi 7 is one of four Indian restaurants within easy striking distance of home, and is a country mile ahead of the competition. We'll be back at the smallest excuse.
