Pleasant place for families or if camping

We drove there near sunset and it was a bit scary. driving down from Rotorua city on State Highway 5 turn into the to Waikite thermal pools sign, but there is a long stretch of winding roads, with no street lights or other indications. it was difficult to get there so drive in the daytime is best!

The pools are refreshed with HOT natural spring water from the river adjacent. the best thing about the place is that you see the hot river/spring yay! the water from the spring is very clean and pure. the pools look a bit like a swimming pool though.

a nice place, worth a visit, just in the middle of nowhere.

Would thoroughly recommend visiting this amazing place. The public pools are stunning and there are private pools too! I think the private pools are $14pp (or thereabouts) you can also use the public pools for free after you have had your 40mins in your own little pool! There are family rates and locals or frequent visitors can buy annual passes. Incredible value in my opinion.

At sundown the steam rising off the water coupled with the pretty lighting give the pools a very ethereal, magical quality.

There is a lovely cafe/restaurant which serves good value food - I have never, ever seen a larger bowl of fries (or chips to us Brits!) anywhere else in the world. They are killing my healthy eating plan :0) Staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

People can also take their own food/drinks which may be consumed at nice picnic benches alongside the pools.

I haven't stayed at the campsite but that too looks good and seems to be well-equipped and clean.

You have got to visit!!!

p.s. Family friendly too! Kids are welcomed and love the warm water in the larger pool which is not too deep - our six-year-old rates the pools as his favourite place and we have got to agree with him!
