“We loved Rotorua and The Regent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 May 2012

We had a quick trip to NZ with our two smallish (7&9yo) children and chose to stay at The Regent for two nights based on the reviews on Trip Advisor. I can say that all the positive feedback is warranted! The staff were brilliant at check in - provided a smile, maps and pointed us in the right direction for an initial 'walking tour' of the local area to orientate ourselves with the place. We were also provided loads of info on local stuff to do and all the staff that we had contact with were just generally helpful and pleasant. The attitude of all made the travel experience so easy....we didn't have to wonder how to get the most out of a couple of days. We were recommended to do the Maori Cultural evening, the Thermal Park and Zorbing with the kids - all were fantastic. Much as we were warned by Hoteliers in other NZ cities about "Rotten-arua" and how we shouldn't give it too long - we really enjoyed it - it doesn't smell terrible unless you are standing right beside a Sulphur Pit! As described in other reviews The Regent doesn't look much from the outside, it is a 'tarted up' 60's style motel - but the modernisation has been done with taste and attention to detail. The Drapes in the Main Bedroom were fantastic 'block out' - probably best ever! The beds were brilliantly comfortable, the linen really fresh and white...the bathrooms - very well appointed and clean. Every thing we could have wanted was there - and I really got the feeling that if I did want something that wasn't the staff would sort it out for us! Loved it, loved it, loved it - so did our children! Thanks guys.

At first I was underwhelmed by both Rotorua and the motel. But I was quickly charmed and left the town two days later understanding why it's such a tourist delight. Regent of Rotorua is nicely appointed with modern upgrades to its motel core. There's a nice dining room and bar, though we didn't utilize either one, as the motel is a block away from the main drag which has tons of restaurants and a great craft beer bar. Oh, the mineral hot tub they had was a nice surprise!

My elderly Mum and I stayed 3 nights in March in a 2 bedroom suite and thought it was one of the best places on our trip through NZ. The rooms were all black and white and a bit "retro" but very comfortable and the bathroom facilities were great for my mobility restricted Mum. The restaurant was good and the staff couldn't do enough to help us enjoy our stay, from tourist tips to prompt service when asked for anything. The central location meant we were near "Eat Street" and could walk together to a variety of great restaurants and I could easily walk around town and to the lake and other sites.

Great location, very comfortable rooms, although our 'king bed' was actually two smaller beds pushed together. Nice breakfast.
