“Great Weekend away”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

As a family of 5, we stayed in one of the suites which had a harbour view. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, and the kitchen area was well equipped.
The only niggle we had, was that we had to climb a flight of stairs with our luggage to get to our room. This wasn't too much of a drama for us, but did pose the question of how other guests who were not as mobile would cope, given the fact that we we not advised that the room was not on the same floor as the elevators!
The staff at reception were very accommodating and helpful.
We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, child friendly as well as interesting enough to satisfy the adults in our party.
Overall a pleasant stay, the hotel is central to the Viaduct and Sky tower, and suited our needs well.

The old section of the hotel is a conversion of a former department store. Which is perhaps the reason it features beautiful timber floorboards and massive timber joists. Very interesting however the way the conversion has been done with quirky shaped rooms leaves the impression of a rabbit warren.

We were allocated a room with lighting so dim it would have satisfied the blackout in Britain 1942. This was after requesting a transfer from the original cupboard they booked us into.
Our new room came complete with 1 wooden chair for the 2 of us to share.
Slow support from housekeeping, I guess it was unreasonable of us to request replacement coat hangers, given there were 5 broken hangers in the closet.

Breakfast and evening meals mass produced and regrettably lacking any signs of nourishment.

A general air of weariness, this is a hotel that richly deserves a 2 star rating.

Dear MarLinny,

Thank you for your feedback, it is disappointing to learn that you felt your stay with us was poor. I have looked into the issues around your initial room allocation and as you were apart of group and perhaps did not make the reservation yourself its unclear as to where the misunderstanding in room types has occurred. I have shared your feedback with the team in an effort to address the aspects of your stay that were not upto our required standard. If you would like to discuss this matter further please do feel free to contact me directly via email jamesb@heritagehotels.co.nz.

Kind Regards

James Billing

Not much to say as it was only one night and I didn't eat or drink at the hotel.

The room was nice without being amazing. Perhaps a bit of an odd layout with the wardrobe etc at the end of the bed, and a desk to the side of the bed, rather than the other way around. TV in the corner of the room next to the wardrobe.

The bathroom was nice and big. Friendly and efficient check in and check out. A free drinks voucher was provided for the bar, not sure if that was a normal thing or perhaps because of who I work for.

It was my 40th birthday and we treated ourselves to a night away as we got a awesome deal from wotif including breakfast in a deluxe room.

Well I arrived to find they had upgraded us to a SEAVIEW, ONE BEDROOM SUITE. What a surprise the suite was huge with two tvs, sky movies, a large bed(two singles pushed together) full kitchen and large bathroom with a lovely large bath.

Then I received another surprise from the general manager (thank you )I had a lovely card and delightful box of Devonport chocolates left beside the door of our suite. What a thoughtful touch! What a huge thing to do considering we had purchased our accommodation through a third party and a cheap deal! Heritage you sure know how to look after your guests.

The location was so awesome we are going to take the kids back in the next school holidays as a treat (I think this will be a regular thing from now on.)

The buffet breakfast was very yummy. Full of croissants and pastries, cereals of different types, fruit, breads, spreads, eggs anyway, bacon, salmon, miso soup, rice, potatoes, sausages, pancakes, etc etc to much to name.

Really lovely staff who you can not fault and I have traveled internationally in the last ten years so have seen quite a few hotels and feel that the heritage really offers not only value for money, but a really awesome experience.

Also if you want to have a amazing treat go and visit prohibition restaurant in ponsonby it is amazing. A themed 1920's new york delicious tasting got to go there place. Ring and book first at least a week ahead as they can be fully booked!

We booked a four-night stay here (if it was good enough for the All Blacks...). The hotel had not received our booking form from Laterooms (probably due to Easter), but it was sorted out at Reception. We had an excellent suite on the 7th floor, and may have been upgraded because of the booking mix-up. The room was comfortable, well furnished and equipped. We didn't eat in as meeting relatives in evenings, but found the staff pleasant and helpful and would happily stay here again.
