Description: For a 180 degree view of Melbourne's city skyline, Yarra River and Arts Precinct, journey to Taxi Kitchen in Federation Square's Transport Hotel. Hosting cocktail events, a la carte dining, pre-show drinks and boasting three private function dining rooms, Taxi Kitchen dazzles guests with views through floor to ceiling glass windows complemented by earthy tones, indoor greenery and natural light for a clean, semi-alfresco feel. Playful menu items provoke a certain inquisitiveness of guests, charmingly presented on a bed of black pebbles, rustic wooden boards or in colourful, textured dishes. Delight in any or all six courses from seared scallops with red radish, smoked chilli mayo and katiafi to Wagyu porterhouse with creamed potato and jus gras - just be sure to leave room for dessert

We chose the three course Theatre Menu. Two choices for each course, both delicious. Attentive staff and great views.
Excellent position in Federation square, close to Theatre and other attractions.
Definitely will return again.

We started with the turnip cakes for dinner. They were delicious, including a dipping sause. I ordered the duck. This dish was well balanced, the sweetness of the duck was balanced with a citrus slaw. My wife ordered the salmon, which was cooked perfectly, was very tasty. We ended the meal withe carrot cake which included a mint ice cream. The service was great, we hada wonderfull experience. ENJOY!

Recently had dinner with my partner in Taxi kitchen prior to attending a play in the arts center.
We were surprised first with the amazing views across the river and Southgate and also from the quality of the food and the efficient service.
Highly recommended for couples and small groups.
We are looking forward to return soon for a relaxing dinner.

This was a disappointing experience after a great previous visit. The waitress was quite rude and even slightly aggressive (really set a bad tone for the evening); and while the service from other staff was fairly attentive, they also got things wrong, e.g. delivered cocktails we had not ordered. A specific order for a small fruit juice was ignored and a large one brought, and when we asked for a small one instead we were told 'We only do them in that size!'. I then had to explain how they might pour some of that large drink into a small glass like the ones we had been given for water. Hmmm..
Main course service was quite slow. There was a rather transparent attempt to upsell on the appetisers (tried to get us to order enough of each item for one each, when if we had wanted that we would have asked). There was too-loud (bad) music, and when they eventually turned it down after we asked, it was still too loud to be able to talk comfortably. The restaurant was quite cold once the sun had gone down. The food was quite nice - although the menu is limited - but nothing special.
The worst thing was that there were no gluten-free indicators on the menu and very few gluten-free items. Also, there were differing opinions among the staff as to what was gluten-free and what wasn't. What restaurant in the 21st century doesn't indicate food that is gluten-free (or vegan for that matter?)
It's also not very pleasant getting up to the restaurant - you have to fight your way past security staff. I've given it three stars but was undecided between two and three. Only the nice views and the fact that the food was OK made me decide on three. Also it wasn't too crowded- but that isn't suprising, considering its mediocrity.

This is a form of Asian Fusion Cuisine, where Asian is interpreted fairly liberally - I had Persian Lamb for instance that was very tasty, but the portion was tiny. A wide range of fish and meat dishes, some on the spicy side.
