Coffee & breakfast are our favourite part of the day. Reviews suggested Brother Thomas was worth a try but the overall result was pretty disappointing. Cafe's could save both themselves and their patrons a heap of trouble with a little sign that says whether ordering is at the till or the table. When we asked, I was snapped at...not the best start. Things didn't get better at the till. The entire order had to be repeated, particularly the coffees. When they arrived, at least the drinks were strong (as ordered) but the mocha was so sweet as to almost be undrinkable.

The Big Breakfast wasn't big and looked lost on the white plate. No relish or embellishment to improve the look of the food. The Eggs de Mare was worse. While there was ample salmon, it was fridge-cold and the poached eggs had been put on top of it without being drained properly - queue soggy toast and wet salmon. The bread had barely been toasted.

The cafe was not busy and staff seemed more interested in interacting with each other than with their customers.

Being a Sunday morning, we wandered down to the markets afterwards and would have done better to have had breakfast there.

Thank you for your review. Your review was taken in full consideration for our decision to close the cafe on weekends. The staff you interacted there were not the usual week staff who are doing a great job as we are a very busy place during the week - our clients are mostly business... For the weekend we have now moved the business upstairs just around the corner at 352 William Street, our new place is called Skybird at The Jazz Corner Hotel. The head chef of Brother Thomas is there on weekends and you are guaranteed the same quality as you would expect during the week. Please try it next time, you will love it.

Thank you for your lovely review. Please note that we are now closed on the weekend on that spot, BUT we have moved the business upstairs at 352 William St. Same head chef, It's called Skybird and it is delicious. As we are on the 1st floor, on the trees, you get an incredible view of the Park, it's a great breakfast setting.
During the week, Brother Thomas downstairs, as usual, Monday to Friday.
Warmest.

Quaint little cafe on the corner of William attached to Oaks Hotel. Great for breakfast - a family of 5 - at least 3 of whom have specific food tastes (including a vegetarian). Wonderful selection of breakfasts, but if we wanted to modify or even ask for something off the menu, then it was no problem. We went in several times, the last visit was 3 weeks after our first meal there and it was as friendly, welcoming and understated as the first. Hope the independent, individual character can thrive - it is very welcome.

Was staying next door at Oaks and popped in on a few mornings for a quick takeaway. Staff were always friendly. Takeaway is requested and paid for at the register so I did not sit down (it's casual, you seat yourself if you're stopping), but the place always seemed quite chill and i would have wanted to spend longer there! Note that it closes at 3 on a weekday.
Delicious lattes and small breakie items (I didn't have any meals there). They had posted on the chalkboard the single origin coffees they were serving that day, so it was readily available if interested. Lovely ambience with the daylight flooding in. Loved the retro colour of the La Marzocco espresso machine! Highly recommended. Cheers and continued success.
