JohnGorilla has a pleasant ambience, light, airy and spacious, and comprehensive all day breakfast and lunch menus. The serving staff are pleasant and efficient, and our experience of the lunch menu was first rate. Excellent French toast, lovely quinoa and falafel salad, and a great chicken burger. Prosecco was a welcome inclusion in the drinks selection. Naturally, the coffee was great. Full marks.

Well the place looks the part, all hipster cafe ironic decor all that kind of thing. But there are a few shortcomings, the staff are just a little bit not great, but having read that the boss is a nutter, that may explain that. Coffee was normal, and I only had a cake, but that was quite nice. Dunno about the overpricing, breakfasts aren't cheap these days in a hipster joint. I think I'll go back and give it another go but if it lets me down that will be the end of it. Others have rightly pointed out that there's plenty more fish in the ocean. But It's good if a cafe can make it there away from the madding crowd. Not the worst place that's for sure. Good for a sunny morning street side breakfast

There must be a connection between philosophy and gorillas. It may be just that they are both interesting! There is a rather lovely piece of art of a gorilla in her Sunday Best, and Socrates (and all his philosophical mates) takes the form of a small bust on our table. A great conversation piece.
Efficient and friendly service from glorious young staff who are helpful and thoughtful. The coffee is always good, served in vintage china. My cup, interestingly was a Charles and Diana wedding memento.
The ambiance reflects West Brunswick - gritty urban edge of Melbourne, diversity, warehouses, artists, Federation and Victorian homes, parks, curio shops. Lots of dogs coming and going, and resting outside with their own hungry families.
My companions went for the rosti and pork for a big start to a Sunday. My choice was avocado piquillo, and no one made any rude remarks about "smashed avo hipsters"!
Worth a visit for out-of-towners, and and Melbournians who rarely cross to the northern side of the Yarra River.

The staff at John Gorilla are always lovely and they make delicious coffee.
Usually at least one dog around when I visit which is an added bonus.
