From the first minute we had arrived at the hotel the service was second to none. Check in was fast and the receptionist was very helpful. The room was amazing on the 47th floor and the beds were reciculously soft which provided the best sleep I have had in ages. The bathroom was huge and had very good quality shower products. The TV had great channel selection and a DVD player with surround sound was awesome. All in all this hotel sets a benchmark and I will definately stay again.

I have done 3 reviews on the Sofitel over the years and I will keep this one rather short.
I have stayed at this hotel around 20 times in every room category available and it is a fantastic property.

Exceptional service from reception, and as Platinum Accor am looked after well and this stay was no exception.
Got to experience the Level 50 suites which possibly has the best view of any hotel in this part of the world. (You cannot book the Level 50 suites online, highest room category online is the Prestige Suite)

The Suite (was told by reception the 2nd best suite in the hotel) was one of 4 on the 50th Floor. It is completely different in style from the Prestige or Junior Suites in that it is completely more modern and expensive design (marble walk areas, lots of mirrors, heaps of lighting, newer furnishings)
Dining room, Kitchen area with Nespresso machine, Cream lounges, Desk area, chandalier lighting, buttons to control pretty much everything, 3 phones, huge bedroom with lounge and ottoman, 2 bathrooms, Hermes Amenities, Club Lounge Access, Magazines, 2 huge Television and that amazing view from every angle of the entire suite...the list goes on
The Sofitel My Bed is on my list of must buys when I need a new bed...way better than any other hotel bed out there.

Room service breakfast served on time and very good quality.

Parking always helpful and willing to assist straight away.

Whether it is a special occasion or a longer stay, this hotel has everything you need as a leisure or business traveller (fax machine and plenty of power point access always helpful)

Just book, you won't regret it.

Planned a two day away in a five star place with all the trimmings but sadly disappointed.

Good points: bed was very comfortable. Rooms nicely fitted out. Good location but then there are several 5 star hotels nearby so its not a discerning point.

Bad points: there is this complicated computer system the runs the heating, lighting and TV. Its just too clever. In fact so clever that it irritates. It shuts down the lights and airconditioning if you don't move after someone has left the room. The desk lamp is controlled at the bedside. Bedside lamps are both controlled from the one side of the bed. Because the airconditioning is movement sensitive, the room is cold when you enter. So you turn it up, and then it gets overheated.

The TV misses all the new digital channels and every few minutes goes into a blank screen 'no signal' mode.

Breakfast was disappointing. Food quality - old, tired and dry - was not what I expect for a breakfast that costs $AUD40.

I am never more surprised than I am by 5 star hotels in Australia that don't have a pool.

You get a sense of being processed rather than welcomed.

I enjoyed my stay at the Sofitel. I had a fantastic room on the 46th floor overlooking the MCG and parks of Melbourne. The room amenities were very good but the lighting system was overly complicated with button everywhere switching lights on and off all over the place! The bed was kingsize and incredibly comfortable.

Breakfast is served on the 35th floor and it was of a very high standard. I was staying at this hotel on the evening of ANZAC Day so it seemed very quiet but that was fine. Location is good.

The wireless internet was reasonably priced although during peak times it was slow. There is no swimming pool at this hotel which is a shame.

Regardless, I would stay here again.
