“Well located, good value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2012

We stayed 4 nights at the Crossley Hotel. The room was a good size, clean, and well appointed. Soundproofing between rooms was very good. Our window overlooked an alley, so there was no road noise, but one night we did hear someone emptying a bin full of bottles, but that was a minor disturbance, and did not cause disrupted sleep.

Although the bathroom was showing its age, it was clean, a good size, and we were happy with it.
Our room was on the top (6th) floor, and there was a lovely little library / reading area, between the lifts, with natural light. Nice touch.

We had the continental breakfast included in our tarrif (booked from the hotel's website), and there was a good range of cereals, juices and fresh fruit, also some cold cuts and cheese.

The hotel is in chinatown, so there are plenty of chinese restaurants and other cuisines in easy walking distance. Very handy for the circle tram.

OVer all good value for money, clean, quiet and a good location.

I stayed here for a few nights in Jan 2012. Not much accommodation available as Aust Open was on at the time.
I normally stay around Swanston or Little Collins st. but my usual ones were not in my price range. This one looked good and I was not disappointed. The Crossley was clean, classy and friendly.
In a good location too. Located at the top of Chinatown so lots of good restaurants near by. One block from Burke st so it is easy to walk down one of the lane ways and get on the tram to the Mall etc...good location for exploring Carlton and Fitzroy too.
Can recommend.

We had a lovely room with a very comfortable bed. The staff were very attentive and when I had a problem using the free internet to print a boarding pass , I was helped to solve the dilemma by Ken ,one of the lovely staff. A great base to stay in Melbourne.

The Crossley is a great hotel and good value for a 3 star hotel. I was in Melbourne over a weekend for the Australian Open and it was a fantastic location. The hotel is clean and quiet.
For a 3 star hotel they still had several little perks like the weekend newspaper. The room I had was a decent size and was comfortable.
I found the staff to be pleasant and overall it was a great hotel for the weekend.

The Crossley has an excellent location in the heart of Melbourne's theatre district and Chinatown. There are plenty of restaurant choices very close by, mostly Asian, and a large proprtion of Melbourne's major theatres within a few blocks. Location, however, is the hotel's best feature.

Rooms are reasonable in size and furnishings are in good condition, even if a bit dull and boring. There is adequate desk space if you're on a business trip, and enough hanging space and drawers for clothes. The room I occupied also had a kitchenette with refrigerator, electric kettle and microwave. There were adequate supplies of tea, milk, coffeee and sugar, all provided free (well - within the cost of the room). An ironing board and iron was also provided in the room.

The negatives started in the bathroom. The shower was over the bath. The side of the bath was high enough so that getting in and out posed some risk, especially when stepping onto a wet floor, where slippery tiles were a positive danger. There was no safety rail to hang on to.

Bath gel and shampoos supplied were adequate but not of particularly good quality. The shampoo in particular was harsh. There were enough towels but they were aged and quite rough.

In room lighting was designed (I think) for effect rather than effectiveness. It took a bit of organising to get good lighting on the desk without completely washing out the screen on my laptop.

TV reception was mixed - some channels were good but some were quite poor.

The front desk was efficient but not especially welcoming, although that changed on checkout, which was both efficient and very friendly.

Free access to Internet ready PCs and a printer were provided in an alcove by the lifts, but printout paper was only available at a cost of 10c a sheet - an absolute rip-off. (In Melbourne, a ream - 500 sheets - costs around $5.00)

Overall, the Crossley was reasonable value (especially when booked through a 'last minute'style of Web site), is well located, but is extremeley average overall.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does NOT front the street - especially during Chinese New Year!
