Only here to get on the boat to tas. Late sailing due to bad weather.
There is bugger all parking so get here super early on wait a little.
They don't let you cue up if the gates aren't open. So be warned.
Not much in the way of dining options here so eat elsewhere if you hungry. Not far from quite a few eateries though.
It's well serviced with a light rail.
Lots of appartments nearby.
Not a tourist feature by any stretch.

Station Pier is the Melbourne home for the Spirit of Tasmania, which leaves very night for the Apple Isle. Cruise ships also dock here. Considering it's the first impression many travelers get of Australia, it's a bit run down. The area has been upgraded, so you can get a decent meal.

If you are boarding or departing a cruise ship then this sadly is the pier you will use. It is not up to scratch compared to other terminals in Australia like the two in Sydney and the one in Brisbane. Even Newcastle is getting a brand new terminal which is likely to be light years ahead of this dump.

The sad points are very few transport options. Taxis are few and far between, buses clog up the terminal and the tram has little information for people on where to get tickets and where to transfer.

The worst part about the terminal is the overzealous security which makes it a major step backwards in comparison to Sydney. Unlike Sydney where their passenger terminal has restaurants, a public viewing area and adequate security, this sad excuse for a terminal pretty much excludes anyone from the area who is not boarding the ship leaving them to their own devices to carry their own luggage without any assistance.

For a major city in Australia that attracts some of the worlds leading cruise ships and cruise lines this terminal is a step backwards and puts the city to shame.

Easy access, plenty of restaurants and pubs to check out and still also very close to the city.

Great part of Melbourne but the Port itself could do with some funds invested in some redevelopment.

It's a tired and rundown old dump that reached its use by date decades and decades ago. As an entry portal to Melbourne for Cruise ships, it presents poorly and is a disgrace.
Sterlile, dirty, cold and drafty, it really is hard to find anything positive about the old concrete relic.
But it gets worse. Get off a Cruise ship with 2500 passengers and try to get a taxi. Go on, just try! The Taxi industry studiously ignores the place so you can wait up to 3 Hours (if your lucky). The Cruise ships even warn you well in advance of the pathetic transport problems.
Ok, so get a hire car. Oops, taxis can get on the wharf but hire cars are not allowed. So enjoy your long, long walk. Great fun if its raining cos you and your luggage are going to get drowned. And the public car park outside the wharf is so small and cluttered that they often cannot park there either. Good luck!
The relevant authorities really need to pull their head out of the sand and have a good hard look at this, their entry portal. It is totally substandard and a disgrace to Melbourne.
