“Canadians find a gem in Hobart!”
Reviewed 15 March 2012

We are a mother & daughter travelling pair and from the moment we entered the door of this superb gem of a hotel, we knew we were in for an exceptional experience. The staff could not have done a better job at making us feel welcome and taking care of our every need - and wants too! Compliments to the chefs who turned meals into works of art to match the collection in the building!!! Breakfasts were beautiful...thanks Sarah...eggs and all accompaniments done to perfection, tea hot as it should be, and the staff made it seem so effortless.
Room was spacious, bathroom very modern and luxurious, and service invisible...I can't say enough about our experience and, after we had made three other stops in Australia, we were in dire need of some laundry facilities. Yes, the staff even did that for us at no additional charge which is a big surprise considering what we paid for the same service in other hotels!
if I had to pick a negative, it would be that our three-day stay was just too short!!!!

It is hard to believe that a hotel can get it SO right.

I am trying to find words to add to all the other wonderful things that people have said, which is not easy. I think it took the whole 3 days for the perfection of this place to sink in - it is such a "one off", not only in the beauty of the building and decor, but the extraordinary warmth and genuine hospitality of the staff. How they keep it up I don't know!

As far as we are concerned it is worth travelling to Hobart just to stay here. This is as good as it gets in our opinion, and anyone who stays anywhere else is really missing out on seeing how a boutique hotel, or any accommodation for that matter, should be run.

Well done!!

We stayed here for our final night in Tasmania and were sorry we didn't have the chance to enjoy a few more nights here.
The building and setting is lovely, the artworks prolific and furnishings wonderfully appointed. We were made to feel very much at home from the moment of arrival through a very warm reception and like the sumptuous surroundings were actually our own.
Our room (a downstairs garden suite in the new wing) was large by most standards and very comfortably appointed. We had french doors opening to the pretty garden outside as well as an impressive view of Mt Wellington.
Everything you can think of to make your stay comfortable has been considered: flowers in the room from the garden, aesop toiletries, premium tea and coffee, magazines, even a on-site chef whipping up complimentary treats throughout the day.
It is a bit of a walk into Hobart central, probably not an issue if you have plenty of time (& we would recommend this is the sort of place to come and luxuriate in for days at a time). However on our tight schedule on this visit, a car was a must so we could get around to all the things we wanted to without long strolls in between.

Room Tip: The downstairs garden room in the new wing opens onto the garden - perfect for enjoying a lazy tea o...

The Islington is a little piece of paradise conveniently located in the outskirts on Hobart's CBD. From the moment you are greeted at the grand entrance you are looked after just as you would look after a dear friend. All the staff are very warm and accommodating and are more than happy to tailor your experience to suit individual requirements. The beautiful light filled conservatory is an ideal place to sit and enjoy one of Chef's scrumptious muffins, and breakfast in the morning is amazing- cooked to perfection! The rooms are very comfortable, with high quality amenities and beds that you never want to leave! A must for any length of stay in Hobart!

Yes Chef’s muffins are certainly the talk of the town , he’ll even show you how to make his ‘never fail’ recipe and it is! I’ve never had one that was any less than scrumptious.

This hotel exudes luxury, solitude and graciousness. From the time you enter through the automatic gates into the secluded parking area, you are treated as royalty. Here are the highlights:

Pros:
-Beautiful union of modern architecture to the existing historic structure.
-Fabulous hosts that attend to every want and desire.
-Modern, ultra luxurious room complete with fine loose leaf teas and freshly ground plunger coffee.
-Delicious on site meals using the freshest ingredients from their own garden.
-Hobart's attractions are all within walking distance, but far enough away to feel as though you are in the country.

Cons:
-Did not stay longer.
