We stayed at the BnB for two nights. I was travelling with my partner and a friend, so needed two rooms. Julie was responsive in altering the dates easily. We saw four bedrooms in the house, two bedrooms on each side of the house. Each had a private eating table but the kitchen is shared. On one night we shared with a family of four with a friendly dog, so was OK. The other night, there was no one else there so we had the place to ourselves. The laundry is at one end of the house, so anyone using it has to walk through one of the eating areas to get to it. There are locks on every bedroom, so everything is safe. But if you demand total privacy for one bedroom, this is probably not your place. The rooms are clean with comfortable beds, good linen and kitchen has enough things for breakfast and you are able to cook. The small chocolates in the room are a nice touch.
The highlight for us was we got to see Markus and Julie's working mine and had morning tea out there. Was a great experience and appreciated.
The sign to the BnB is hard to see when you are travelling from the airport to Coober Pedy, but we did spot the BnB sign going the other direction. Easier still, call Julie if you need assistance. The fairy lights at night gave us direction and you go down a driveway into the compound area. Overall, a lovely experience in underground living with cool rooms and nice company with two cats and a dog, all of which are very friendly!
We meant to stay 2 nights but ended up there for 4 nights because we both got sick. The owners are not onsite so that was a shame because we were looking forward to hearing all their stories of local life, which the brochure promises. The home is large & beautiful & such a novelty staying underground. The kitchen is ample with everything you could need to self cater, plus generous breakfast supplies provided. There are 2 main living areas with their own dining areas & lounges plus bedrooms. The kitchen is the only shared area plus laundry. Great big clothes line & all undercover. Desert gardens, fire pits & little BBQ nooks & seating areas are lovely outdoors features. Lots of bird life. Had some issues with one of the TVs not working but luckily were able to use the other lounge to watch TV, the toilet sprung a leak & the tumble dryer didn't work but overall was great value for money & a great experience.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts Julie and Markus, WOW xxxxx
For anyone that loves the out back but still loves to stay somewhere with all the comforts of home then some :) AND wow what an experience to stay in a dugout! Enjoyed sitting in the cactus nursery enjoying the complementary bottle of red and chocolates. Just one of the many unique retreats on the hidden property.
Cannot recommend enough xxxxx Julie and Markus are long term Coober Pedians and gave us local knowledge that you couldn't buy.
