We generally really enjoyed our stay this week for our honeymoon. It was utterly relaxing and just what we needed after the last few months of hectic wedding planning.
Thankfully for us, it was absolutely gorgeous weather for the first four days and rained for just the last day, which in summer was actually quite lovely, (especially swimming in the warm pools in the rain), though a library with books and magazines would be nice for rainy days. It was nice to read a book, drink something from the bar and listen to the live music in the evenings in the central atrium.
It was off-peak season and during Covid, so there were almost as many staff here as guests. Consequently they were rotating which restaurants were open on which days.
Every restaurant that we ate at had chefs who were willing to make a special meal for my husband, who is a strict vegetarian, BUT none of them had much in the way of vegetarian or vegan options at all on their menus. This was a particular problem as there are only about three places on the island to eat, and no kitchens in the rooms that you could cook in, nor are there groceries available in the small shop. I ended up eating more meat in one week than I have in years! The breakfast buffet was excellent, but the seafood buffet provided nothing in the way of vegetarian protein (though the chef again kindly provided some upon request). I feel this is a very glaring oversight given the resort's boasts about its sustainability credentials! The most sustainable way to live and especially to treat the oceans, is to refrain from consuming all its wildlife!!
The staff were friendly and very helpful. There seems to be a nice friendly inter-staff culture though somewhere in the management there appears to be an unempathetic attitude towards the staff, encouraging the high staff turnover.
It's also a shame that such a beautiful natural asset was sold to Chinese interests a few years ago. Australia should retain absolute ownership over important sites like this.
All in all a wonderful experience, but they need to improve their vegetarian food options, and treat the staff better.
