We stayed in a quiet back apartment with a private balcony. The bathroom is due for renovation, and the fridge and stove look tired, but everything else was smart and clean. It is classified a 4 star venue, but is more like 3 star, with no manager on site. This apartment had a new large TV. If you can negotiate a good price, it is a good spot to stay in terms of the beach, the town centre, and the marina.

The apartment was clean and well presented. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery. The TV was new and there was a DVD player. We enjoyed being able to walk to the beach, town etc. Would definitely stay there again

The apartment was spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed. Swimming pool was on the small side but heated enough to take the edge off, we had a dip every day and mostly had it to ourselves. A pleasant walk to shops and restaurants, only needed the car for day trips. Reception was not manned but did not worry us, they are contactable by phone if needed. Small TV but we weren't concerned, we didn't go to Port Douglas to stay home and watch TV. Overall great value for money, we would stay there again.

My husband and I stayed at the Tropic Sands from 16 - 23 May in a privately owned apartment belonging to John and Shirley Carney. Having booked this apartment through ebay at a very cheap rate we didn't know quite what to expect, however we were very pleasantly surprised as the apartment was very clean and bright, and has a full kitchen, lounge room, bathroom and seperate bedroom with a very comfortable bed. The apartment comes with everything you need for a great holiday including free car parking.
The location was fantastic within easy walking distance to both Macrossan Street and Four Mile Beach.
I would recommend this apartment to anyone looking for comfortable, quality for money accommodation and would certainly stay here again if we holiday in Port Douglas in the future.

The Tropic Sands is at the action end of Davidson Street within 5 minute walk to the restaurants, bars and stores on Macrossan Street and about 10 minutes from the Inlet and Reef boats.

Our apartment comprised of one bedroom, bathroom with shower, Kitchen/Dinner/Lounge with a sliding slated timber shutters through to the bedroom. The apartment was looking a bit tired with cracks in the walls were the blocks meet and in places where things have been moved such as vents and the smoke alarm you could see holes or bits of missing plaster.

The kitchen was small and had a full sized fridge/freezer (although this was showing signs of corrosion on the bottom corner of the door), two ring hobs, fan oven, range hood extractor, sink and all the crockery and cutlery we needed. The only thing we had to ask for was glasses as for some reason our room only had one when we arrived. The frying pan wasn’t very clean when we arrived but all the other kitchen items were fine.

There is a TV in the lounge with the usual resort Austar TV channels; I think there was previously a DVD player on the TV as there were stick pads left on the top and reference to it in the room guide. The TV also turned around so you could watch it through the shutters in the bedroom. There was an AC unit in the lounge which worked fine in cooling and drying the air but was noisy so we switched it off at night.

The bathroom had a few marks and dings in the wall and the shower glass was signs of aging but was clean. So much so the tiny little bugs seemed to like living around our sink.

There was a car park under the apartments which never really had more than about 4 cars in it throughout the course of our stay. The spaces were on a first come first served basis.

There was a free form saltwater pool with some nice loungers by it at the front of the complex but it wasn’t very warm (but hey it was winter!). Also next to the pool was a table, chairs and gas BBQ which you could help yourself to during your stay. The BBQ was really clean and the table and chairs looked almost new.

The reception was manned from 8am to 5pm daily but if you are arriving late the staff leave the room unlocked (keys inside) and an envelope of information out for you.
