After quite rightly cancelled trips due to weather conditions we managed to go and experience the Low Isles! Loved it so much less commercialised than Quick Silver - Staff so amazing !

We had a great day today with Wavelength. Staff fantastic, passionate and well-informed (all the team looking after guests were marine biologists), great gear, best briefing on snorkelling I've ever had, good food and three good snorkelling spots. Highly recommended.

We booked with Wavelength because they offer small group snorkling trips to the reef (max 30 pax where some go up to 300/boat). Great experience with 2 marine biologists on board and 3 beautiful snorkling sites. Besides this there was a nice lunch and good company. Worth the extra money.

RB,

Thanks for your kind review.

People assume we are more expensive than the alternatives as we take smaller groups and have always been highly rated on review sites including Tripadvisor, but also back in the days when there was just Frommers and Lonely Planet.

The current single adult snorkelling prices for Outer Reef trips from Port Douglas are:

Wavelength $239.50
Calypso $246.50
Poseidon $246.40
Silversonic $246.50
Aquaquest $246.50
Quicksilver $256.50 Pontoon: Intro snorkel tour extra $64. Advanced snorkel tour extra $82

Wavelength is the only Port Douglas family owned business of the outer reef tours. Sailaway and Reef Sprinter are the other Port Douglas family owned reef tour companies.

Aquaquest is owned by Cairns company Diversden which is still a family company and that boat does a 2 site day and just started operating from PD last year. Calypso is owned by a publicly listed Australian company since last year. Poseidon, Silversonic and Quicksilver are all part of the Quicksilver Group which is owned by a Japanese corporation.

So we don't have venture capitalist investors, shareholders, directors fees or headquarters. We don't have the same obligations to maximise profit for our investors, as we don't have any investors, and we are in the situation where the decision makers (us) are normally out on the boat at least a few days a week including skippering one of the boats.

All the reef tour companies in Port Douglas do great trips and Quicksilver, despite being the most expensive, still provides a really great trip, especially if you have older or very young people in your group or non swimmers, or want to make use of the pontoon facilities like helicopter flights. But, as a small family owned company that does nothing else except our reef tours, in order to survive we have to do our very best to provide the best service and the best value we can as we don't have the marketing capabilities of the others.

Thanks again for choosing us!
Regards
John and Jenny

I cannot speak highly enough of Wavelength for their care and passion for the reef and their dedication to giving you a fantastic trip.

With cyclone warnings being given for further down the coast and weather forecasts all being out of sync, wavelength were very honest about the fact they may have to cancel by calling a few days before. I got regular updates and was thrilled that our trip went ahead. They seemed to value customer safety, and experience above the profit of getting a boat out every day which I really appreciated: I didn’t come all this way to be seasick the whole time!

Seemless pick up from accommodation and a spacious boat even with merging the wavelength 3 (I had requested) onto the 4 due to the potentially large swell. We saw new things at every mooring with the highlight being swimming alongside beautiful turtles at the 1st and 3rd. The crew are marine biologists who know so much about the reef. There were briefings before each snorkel session and they ran talks about different animals and threats to the ecosystem which were fascinating. We even had a mini tour in the water with them, allowing me to see so much more than if I had opted to go alone. Another bonus =prescription masks!! Food, drinks and snacks were plentiful and of good quality too.

Overall the attention to detail, small group size, amazing mooring sites and knowledgable team made it a day not to forget. You will not find a better tour.

We were a group of four adults... 3 confident swimmers and one novice.
Wind was strong but crew warned us to expect choppy seas and also provided anti-seasickness meds.
Crew were all extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
Michelle, in particular, was encouraging and supportive of the novice, ensuring that I got a good viewing of the marine life of the Reef...
Unreserved recommendation of Wavelength cruise.
