“It has it all - but!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2012

Enjoyed a lovely relaxing week at Mantra Port Sea - great facilities, very friendly staff, but for $190.00AU per night ($250.00NZ) - with no room servicing, no lift to upper floors - and having to remove our own rubbish or pay for it - this made the stay only average value for money. This place has everything going for it - but they need to try and add value for travellers. We have to agree with a number of other tourists grumbles at this tim that Cairns/Port Dougls have probably over-cooked their pricing for accomodation & restaurants. We strongly suggest that travellers shop around and negotiate their own prices rather than book through an agent.

Room Tip: Room facing the pools look better than the one we had facing the back of the hotel

Hello Cavalier11

Thank you for taking the time to review Mantra Portsea. Unfortunately your stay was during peak season and rates do get high at this time of year. The peak times to stay in Port Douglas are June - October, school holidays and Christmas/New Year. Rates are considerably cheaper in the wet season and even the shoulder periods have some great packages.

I'm so glad to hear you had a lovely relaxing week. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to be advised of any specials or packages that would make your stay more reasonably priced.

Thanks again
Helen

My partner and I stayed here for 4 nights in a 1 bedroom suite on the 27th July – 31st July, when we arrived we were amazed at the beautiful hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We spent most of our afternoons laying by the pool ordering yummy cocktails at the pool bar. The room was really great for us but I think next time I would rather ask for a pool view room. Only one fault is that the cleanliness of the room could have been improved.

Hello Brooke J

Thank you for your kind words about Mantra Portsea. We do have a beautiful resort, don't we, from the moment you enter the open air lobby and see the lagoon pool. Thank you also for appreciating our wonderful staff. We love to hear that we have surpassed expectations in terms of care and friendliness and have made a guest's stay that much better. And then there are the cocktails...as you say so yummy.

Please do not hesitate to conact us if you wish to stay again - we would love to spoil you. The one bedroom lagoon apartments are popular as they guarantee a view of the lagoon pool. For those who love water views they are a must.

Thanks again
Kind regards
Helen

My husband and I just spent the most wonderful time in Port Douglas (July 29th to August 5th) at the Mantra Port Sea. Firstly great location and access to beach, Nice leisurely walk to main street shops, restaurants etc, Loved all pool areas, especially water features and lovely gardens. Friendly staff, especially front reception staff (Casey, Shoo, Katja) Very good breakfast and the morning breakfast staff did a great job too. Our balcony looked over lagoon pool areas and it really had a "wow" factor each time we stepped outside. Room and facilities were all very good. We were so impressed with our overall experience, we were trying to figure out which room would be best for our next visit.

This is our first time at Port Douglas, we loved our dual key room, nice to have two bathrooms, a kitchen, lounge, and a balcony where we spent late nights playing games if we weren't out. We loved the pool and the access to the beach. It's just that the lamp shades and ceiling fans a bit dusty, but otherwise everything was good. We stayed for seven nights, it would have been nice to be serviced in the middle of our stay like they did at another apartment we stayed at at the Gold Coast. But no dramas we just asked for fresh linen and changed them ourselves. Staff very friendly and helpful and enhanced our stay tremendously...we will be back :))

Hello RandM26

Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad you had a fantastic holiday. Thank you also for mentioning about the lamp shades and fans - this has been brought to the attention of the houskeeping supervisor. We give a complimentary mid stay service for stays of eight nights or more so I'm sorry you just missed out on this. As you mentioned we offer complimentary fresh towels at reception.

We would love to welcome you back.
Thanks again for your kind words.

Pros: Reasonably modern rooms, pleasing architecture/ layout, approx 200m to beach, good breakfast, well maintained, reasonable packaged rates through our travel agent.
Cons: The option to pay extra for daily housekeeping should be advised at time of booking, (in reality maintaining the room ourselves was not a big issue but why not tell be honest ahead of time), usurious rates for use of internet (A$15 for 2 hours)

Hello Elgoa

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on your stay at Mantra Portsea. It's great that you have covered both pros and cons. Thank you for telling us about what we are doing well.

In regard to the servicing we always hope that travel agents ask their clients about the kind of rate they wish to be booked for their holiday as both serviced and unserviced rates are available for all bookings. It is always worth making sure that your agent has got all your details correctly. If something like servicing has not been booked we can offer this at the resort but it can come as a rude shock that your agent has not included this at the time of booking.

The internet at Mantra Portsea is provided by Azure and the rates are stated before you elect to purchase wireless. Unfortunately we are a small town far from the enviable low rates offered in most cities.

Thanks again for your comments.

Kind regards
Helen
