After trying other fine establishments (including Watergate) we found ourselves pondering the menu outside at Sassi, as the sun set tropical over the river before us. Funnily enough we did the same thing the next four days running, stopping only because we leave for Melbourne today.
If you like authentic high-class Italian and staff who are excited and proud of the food they serve, you can't go past it.
Over four days we worked our way through all but one of the seafood pastas, most of the starters, and all of the deserts; the highlights among many being the home made squid-ink 'Nero" fettuccini with prawns, the best chargrilled octopus I have ever had, the seafood linguini exotically crowned with a Mortan Bay bug, and to finish with, the basil gelato with figs and prunes (think Tuscany!), and for traditionalists awesome affo-gato.
We washed it all down with a nice Italian Pinot Grigio ($45) when we had had enough Cosmo.
