We stayed here on 2 different occasions in March and although paid the same price for our room each time, we had one great room and one only just acceptable.
When you arrive at the hotel, it had a nice tropical feel to it with lush planting and colonial style shutters everywhere. I liked the look of it very much. Location-wise, it's good too - not far to walk to the esplanade and lots of shops - perhaps 5 minutes?
The 1st time round, we were very disappointed in our room. It was rather dusty with a very old looking bathroom. You had to have the shutters closed all the time for privacy as they had a corridor right by the window so everyone could see in. The worst aspect though was the shower which squealed terribly and must have woken up everyone around us. Oh yes, just remembered that next door got up early and decided to smoke outside our room as didn't want their smoke in their room. Not the fault of the hotel though - just thoughtless people.....but a downside of having a corridor room.
However, 2nd time round, we were given a massive room with a double bed and 2 singles. We also had our own private area out the back facing onto a courtyard. It was much cleaner, and although the bathroom did look tired, it worked much better. We were very happy with this room.
As for teas and coffees, these are provided, but were sometimes in the fridge. If not there, you asked at reception as they had an ant problem during our visit so only handed stuff out when it was required. I didn't have a problem with that at all. Also, the kettle and cups were sometimes hard to find, but were always there in the room - it was just a matter of finding the right cupboard.
Other people have commented on the A/C - we found this over efficient and always ended up turning it down.
We thought the breakfast was excellent - lots of fresh fruit. The scrambled eggs had been sitting around a bit, but all the other cooked stuff was fine. It was a lot better than a lot of other hotels we've been to over the past 3 months!
