My boyfriend and I stayed here in a private double room for 3 nights and had a really good experience. It's located right in the city centre, about 5 minutes walk from the main Esplanade and Cairns Lagoon. Our room was small but with a comfy, clean bed, decent sized fridge to keep our food in, our own air con unit and ceiling fan. The shower, toilet and kitchen facilities were always kept clean, too. The lady on reception, Miriam, was so lovely and helpful and gave us heaps of tips about where to eat and what to do in Cairns- she added a great deal to our pleasant experience of the hostel.

Some things they could do to improve are:
Improve the wifi service
Ensure constant hot water in the showers
Install a small mirror in the rooms.

A final thing to note is that, as stated on their website, the hostel is located above a loud pub, so staying on Saturday and Sunday night was noisey, but not so bad that we couldn't get to sleep.

I would definitely recommend this place for people travelling on a budget.

Okay it's a hostel, you get what you pay for, certain things I can deal with, I've stayed in enough hostels but you expect a certain standard. It wasn't the cleanest, was unbearably hot even with the fan turned on all night but there's more. My friend and I stayed here for two nights. The second day we left at 6am for a trip out to the reef, we got back about 5pm and our door was wide open. We had locked it, my friend is particularly OCD, yet there it was open, all our stuff was there, luckily we took passports etc with us. We complained and were told they had a new cleaner. I'm sorry but what a crock of s**t. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and this is by far the worst. It was just one thing after another. Ugh, never again.

Hi,

Thank you for your review. We do appreciate any feedback.

We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us and would like to apologize for the incident concerning your door being left opened during the day. It is an extremely unfortunate accident and we do understand your frustration. The housekeepers have all been retrained and made aware that it was a critical mistake that can never happen again.

We are disappointed to read that you thought the hostel wasn't the cleanest as we do pride ourselves in having really high standards and our housekeeping team works hard every day to ensure that the hostel stays clean at all time. As for the room being hot, we have A/C units in each room which normally keep the rooms nice & cool.

Once again, we are sorry that you had such a bad experience staying with us and wish you the best for the rest of your travels.

Located next to and part of The Jack cafe/restaurant, the vibe is lively and good for the bar/pool/party minded people. Free dinners every night with your stay (of good quality 9 out of 10 times!) and cheap rates, it's not a bad place to make camp for a while. Just be aware in the weekends they often play music and/or have live bands that make quite a bit of noise into the wee hours of the night. Bring earplugs if you need a good night of sleep!

Never minded staying here, always felt comfortable but I found out they don't let you turn your aircon on in winter but everyone knows cairns has two season hot and hotter so I won't be staying again.

Hi,

Thanks for your review, we do appreciate all feedback :)

We had colder weather 2 months ago and turned off the A/Cs for a week approximately. It is really unfortunate that you stayed here at that time and felt like it was too warm in the room. At the time, we thought that the weather was cold enough to be comfortable with the use of the fan only.

We apologized if you didn't enjoy your last experience staying with us. We now have the A/C running 24/7 and would love to have you back when you are in Cairns again.

Enjoy your travels

Located corner of Spence and Sheridan St, Cairns city.
Greeted by friendly staff.
Very spacious and cool looking surroundings.
Staff suggested the bbq ribs, which was excellent quality and value at $20.
There is a covered yet breezy area with large screen TV''s.
Well worth a visit.
