This hotel had everything we needed: perfect location just steps to all the Cairns attractions; a very reasonable price considering the location; a very nice (not new) apartment with its own washer and dryer; a well equipped kitchen; and, most of all, the friendly, gracious owner, Kay, who took care of all our needs and helped us sort out the myriad tour packages to get us just what we wanted--not the most expensive ones either. Being one block back from the Esplanade gave us a very quiet stay, yet we had a market, pharmacy, restaurants, and shops within steps of the door. A great find!

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights over the October long weekend. It was our first time in Cairns and we booked it over the net, so we weren't sure of what to expect. We were really suprised - room was clean and tidy, airconditioned, bathroom was spacious enough for our needs, washing machine and dryer nicely tucked away in the same bathroom. The pool is heated and every evening my wife would spend some time in it before we went out to eat. Even though our room faced the street, the noise really wasn't that bad at all, and once you closed the door to the balcony there wasn't any street noise at all. The apartments have a homely feel to them rather than flash and glamour. They are well located to the city centre with everything within a 10 minute walk - a 2 minute walk down the street is Woolworths, IGA supermarket is directly around the corner, Cairns central shopping centre is a leisurely 10 minute flat walk away. Right next door is the night markets with a food hall. Around the corner is the Esplanade and restaurants. The people on the front desk were very helpful, talkative and friendly. If you want, they'll book tours for you at no extra cost. Check out was a breeze, they called a cab to take us to the airport and the cab arrived in less than 5 minutes.
Overall we were both very happy with our stay and will stay there next time we holiday in cairns

Staff we're honest, friendly and catered to all our needs..Fantastic location for those without a car, or for a family. Supermarket, the famous night markets and international food courts all within a few minutes walk. Building is old, but for the price, this hotel goes beyond expectations. Amenities clean, has everything you need, self contained apartment. Highly recommend this place, will return without a doubt. Check online, you can get prices at some of the lowest available. Reception was fantastic at organising tours at very competitive rates..For the rating, this place would have to be one of the best for a quiet, family home away from home.

Apartments are roomy enough for a couple, clean, in pleasant light colours; good bed. As usually in Australia (due, probably, to my European heritage), I missed a hand shower. But otherwise a nice bathroom. Small but adequate kitchen. There is a small swimming pool. The place is quiet (considering it's next to the night market) unless some guests day by day burn their toasts and cause firealarm to go on. Happened two days in the row, the second one the fire brigade even came!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool.

We had mixed feelings about this hotel stay and whether you love it or not probably depends a lot on what you expect from a stay. For example, the location is very excellent if you want access to the esplanade and the restaurants there. There is a nice heated pool and it is great to have a washer and dryer in the apartment.

But, there are some aspects that grate a bit as well. For example, there seemed to be a tendency to nickel and dime the guests (e.g. internet is not included and is expensive). This combined with generally abrupt service level was irritating. Put it this way, when it came to ordering a taxi, we ordered it ourselves rather than deal with the front desk.

For example, when we asked if there was a baby seat we could use, we were told there was. We were not told there were charges but then we were billed at check-out. I was informed that this was fair since had not been billed for cots and besides, the prices were 'on the internet.' In fact, we had already been billed $40/night for cots and the request was made at the front desk, not over the internet.

As another example, when asking where we could park our rental car in the parking lot, we were told that parking for rental cars had 'nothing to do with us.' The problem was that the person assumed we were not guests, even after speaking to us earlier. As another example, at check-out, with a taxi waiting, we had left the second key in the room. The manager asked us to go back to the room and retrieve it.

These things are not terrible but they are also not a great way to interact with guests. We stayed at the Hilton during the same trip and there was a massive difference in the service level. Overall, this is a solid, three star self/contained apartment complex, so if you are happy to fend for yourself, it could fit the bill. It has some nice features and foxtel on the tv was a good bonus. At the same time, if you rely on or are accustomed to good service, you may be a bit disappointed.
