Owner description: Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

A nice way to cool off near the ocean, beats the hotel pools.

“Shallow water, crowded but nice hangout”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 March 2012

I went by myself a few times to the lagoon. Its definitely fun if you go in a group, it does get crowded but there are a lot of people there who were by themselves as well.

Nice temperature, lifeguards available, very pretty.

“Great Place to cool off”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

Whoever came up with the idea of a pool right on the ocean, with sand, has to be given an award. The beach is not great so this is way better. And it has sand beaches.
