“Cheap Accommodation in Brisbane”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2012

Myself and 3 other friends were in Brisbane for 3 nights. Brisbane hotels are expensive and knowing that we will spend most of our time outside, we don't want to splurge on hotels. Aussieway is located on Cricket Street and is about 5 - 7 minutes walk from Roma Street Station. We took the train from GC to Brisbane (Roma Street Staion). From the station, turn to your right and walk straight on until you reach the 2nd traffic light (the first being the one steps away from the station building - for entries into the parking lots). Cross the road at the traffic light then turn right and walk underneath the bridge/flyover. Walk straight on until the traffic light then turn left. Walk up the hill (slight hill) until you reach the top. At the top, cross the road and lookout for Cricket Street. There is a small church/chapel at the top of Cricket Street. Walk down a few housed and you will find Aussieway. There are many restaurants located on 1 street away from Cricket Street and a supermarket (Coles) is about 5 minutes walk from Aussieway.

We stayed in the Family Room (1 double bed, 1 double-decker bed). There is a small fridge and towels are provided. However, there is no en-suite bathroom, meaning you have to share 2 common bathrooms (1 on the ground floor, one on the first floor). Besides that, air-cond and fan is provided and a dressing table. The lodging house also has a small pool, a common TV area and a kitchen which closes at 9pm. Overall, it is a decent place for the price paid although I wish there is an ensuite bathroom for the Family Room.

I stayed here for three night over new year. It's a good hostel, an old house with some ghost character, my dorm was a good size with a good proper mattress which was nice after some I'd stayed on. The staff were very friendly and helpfull and i met a nice mix of people there. It's close to roma street station and caxton street round the corner has a mall and plenty of bars and restaurants. The only critisism would be the tiny kitchen and only a couple of bathrooms but i would happily stay there again.

We stayed here in a private double room for 1 week when we arrived in Australia. Having looked at other hostels nearby throughout the course of that week Aussie Way is perfect for what we were after - chilled out, small, low key. We had a fridge in our room and the kitchen/toilet/communal area was shared between the 4 private rooms, there was plenty of space and very little queuing for the toilet/shower. As the double rooms are in a separate building from the dorms it's nice and quiet. The common areas were all kept very clean, the pool however looked less than inviting! Staff are extremely ffriendly and helpful, overall a good choice.

nice enough place. me and two other girls stayed here for a weekend

good points - nice pool, heritage house, clean nice outdoor area, close to city, reception guy helpful and carried our luggage, free chilled purified water, and coffee.

bad points, communal areas too small, section closed off, small kitchen, not enough toielts or showers, too many anal rules - staff sent us to bed one night for being up after 11

on a quiet street, quiet hostel, overall pretty chilled place but can do better

tips. do washing early can get busy - only 1 washing machine and on the weekend it was busy

Room Tip: not many spare rooms while we there

I originally booked a double room for two nights as I was unsure of how long I would be staying in Brisbane. On arrival we were met by the owener who was very friendly and even offered to carry our bags. The double and twin rooms are situated away from the main building where the dorms are and the buildings are seperated by a pool. Each of the buildings had a lounge with TV and a kitchen. We made good use of these facilities and it was nice to sit back and relax after a day of sightseeing and not have to sit in your room. The room itself was a good size with a very comfortable bed. Each room also has a fridge which is excellent for storing food and water.

The rooms, communal areas and outdoor areas were always very clean and I saw the cleaner everyday. The staff are very helpful and friendly as well as most of the other guests. However there are a high amount of German guests here who are not so friendly. If you are looking for a lively party hostel this is not the place. This is more of a chilled out place which is what we were looking for.

The internet access is only available in the outdoor area by reception at the cost of $5 a day, this was a little confusing as the password for the internet never changed and as an honest person I paid each day but I do think that other people would take advantage as there was no way of monitoring the internet access. There were sometimes also a lack of sockets to be able to use your laptop.

The washing facilities here are also excellent and I always felt that my belongings were safe.

I had to extend my stay in Brisbane and was so happy with the hostel that we stayed for another two nights. On my last night whilst sat outside I heard a rustling and a possom appeared. The owner then told me that one lives near by, this was great to see.

Overall a very good stay
