Owner description: The Defence of Darwin Experience is managed by Darwin Military Museum on behalf of the Northern Territory Government. It was established to tell a story of Darwin's role in World War II and is dedicated to the period 1932 to 1945 - a very important time in Territory history. The Defence of Darwin Experience opened on 18 February 2012, which was in time to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Bombing of Darwin. Defence of Darwin Experience is the first facility in Australia to provide visitor with an immersive, interactive, multimedia experience which extends beyond the physical walls of the precinct 'hub'. The Defence of Darwin Experience is fully airconditioned inlcuding a gift shop and cafe. The Darwin Military Museum is only a step outside of the Defence of Darwin Experience, providing visitors with a different experience: artillery pieces; vehicles, uniforms, firearms, models and paintings and much more. The Darwin Military Museum is the original military museum which was established from the 1960s by the Royal Australian Association of the Northern Territory. The Darwin Military Museum is continuing to expand by adding more exhibitions to further educate visitors of Northern Australia involvement in WWII. Defence of Darwin Experience and Darwin Military Museum has formed a large World War II precinct at East Point. Visitors can move through the precinct and view the displays and exhibitions offered by both facilities.

Very interesting to learn about some of the history. The 3D experience is awesome (I couldn't do the full thing as learnt that my fear of heights is totally in the mind).

Combined with the Flying Doctors display.

Food hall style eateries right next door.

Although I'm not a fan of war museums, I enjoyed visiting this museum. There were plenty of interesting interactive displays, historical material and fascinating audio-visuals that dealt with personal stories and recollections of the bombings and attacks on Darwin in WWII. There were also extensive external displays of equipment and memorabilia. Educational, informative and with great air-conditioning (which makes a real difference to your enjoyment of visiting places in this hot climate).

Lots of information inside and lots of vehicles and equipment outside. The inside section was well presented visually, however there was often lots of different competing auditory presentations which made it difficult to concentrate on and really listen to the particular audio presentation you wish to listen to. I was very interested in the presentations inside but found it too difficult to remain in there and listen. Theater presentation is good.

The virtual reality part of the experience was fantastic I actually had to hold onto the walls between the booths as it felt as if I was going to fall off the pier. I was a fantastic experience. It was a special way to portray the bombing of Darwin by including you in the bombing and devastation that Darwin experienced,

Very informative & even though I knew about the bombing of Darwin this really brought it home as to what happened & how it affected the area & people. Credit to the people who have put these displays & collections together.
