My son and I arranged to meet some friends for dinner at 7:30pm on New Year's Day. My son was hungry, so I asked for some bread at 7:40. Our friends arrived at 7:45. We placed our orders for entrees, mains and wine at 8:00. The bread arrived at 8:45, with olive oil. We had no serviettes and I saw another patron go to get her wine bottle to serve herself more wine. Because the oil was likely to drip, I went and got serviettes from a servingtable. The entrees arrived about 9:00. We had finished the entrees before the wine arrived about 9:15. When the mains arrived about 10:00, the duck and the steak were overcooked. The waitress apologised and said that the kitchen was overwhelmed with room service orders. She did not charge for the duck or the wine. It was a public holiday, with penalty rates for staff, but we could have been warned of delays. Moreover, there were plenty of wait staff, but the service was the slowest I have encountered outside of the Iron Curtain.
