One of the first shops as you walk in via the main entrance. The store is always busy and one of the busiest in the market.

They serve a variety of seafood platters or single items ranging from lobsters, crabs, scallops, octopus to mussels, prawns and calamari. Due to the popularity of the store, the prices are quite expensive and they only accept cash, but the food is generally served very quickly, hence their popularity.

On this occasion, we ordered a lobster platter, which includes a 1/2 lobster mornay, 4 oysters (kilpatrick and mornay), 3 king prawns, a bunch of baby BBQ octopus and fried calamari served with chips for $73.50. The fried food was oily as usual, but the lobsters and oysters were decent.

Definitely not worth the cost, but you come here for the experience and the dock side scenery. Good seafood is just the added extras. With limited good options, this is still one of the better seafood stores to eat from in the market.

I love the fish markets in general, today I wanted to treat myself to some seafood cooked fresh and in before the crowds start.

There is a good selection of seafood on display and looks appetising. This is where the compliments run out though.

A lobster tail and 2 x Oysters Kilpatrick.

Lobster tail - with garlic butter sauce: Over cooked & Luke warm. Far below the appropriate food safety levels I am sure. It was tough and over cooked. Rubbery and chewy.

Oyster Kilpatrick: Looks good and spears to be a true Kilpatrick right up until you eat it and hit with an abundance of Chili (That makes it NOT Kilpatrick) also Luke warm with an overlooked Oyster underneath.

Totally inappropriate food temperature and in my humble opinion if you change a recipe or tweak it with a significant condiment / ingredient like Chilli it should be noted in the description or at least told when ordering.

A total disappointment unfortunately.

Anyone coming to the sea food markets for a fresh authentic sea food experience, should NOT consider this a representation of Sydney or Australia's superb quality of sea food.

On a FIFO visit to old friends we made the trip down on a Sunday morning, not usually the best time but not too crowded. First stop was brunch & this time we also had abalone, $8 a pop but very well presented.
Still amazed this is a cash only joint, shades of under the counter $$$ ? Also, by no means cheap, as all the market they charge premium prices.
Stopped by at Claudios on the way out for the customary 4doz Tas Pacifics, my old mate had long since retired, but I found his colleague & left with excellent weighty medium Pacifics for $15 a doz, unshucked bien sure.

This restaurant located at the Sydney Fish Market is such a great option. Lunchtime, as noted here by others, is frantic but SO worth it! The variety and various preparations of fresh fish is tremendous--so much so we returned the following day for other options at this must-go storefront. The scallops with rice and garlic cheese is to die for! Most items are displayed cafeteria style so one can see what is available. Highly recommend!

We went today to see what the good reviews were about. Nothing substantiated in claims. We ordered the grilled seafood platter for 2. There was barely enough seafood for one person and a pile of chips - one small piece of fish, 4 small prawns, 2 scallops, some rubbery tiny octopus and a few thin pieces of calamari. Surely this was a joke and only meant for one person? Total rip off for$45.50!!! How do they get away with it?!
The fish market is a tourist trap for Asian tourists. Avoid eating there.
