We loved dinner here after visiting the opera house. We had scallops with ginger, noodles with shredded duck and a quite wonderful salt and pepper pork. The dishes are huge - way bigger than we are used to in the uk, and we found the prices reasonable for such great food in an amazing location.
We were impressed at how hard the staff worked to keep the seagulls of our food - we were eating outside, watch the ferries, the people going by, and the sun going down

This restaurant is delicious and one of the only ones we have found which is similar to home (London)!

The food portions are huge so order less than you would from your local takeaway at home.

The view from this restaurant is amazing as it’s right opposite Sydney harbour bridge, and sitting outside you could people watch for ages.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating to any specific requests.

Prices were a little high, however justified because of the central location.

Would definitely recommend.

Welcoming staff. Inside or outdoor searing option. Comprehensive menu offering a broad range of dishes. Our choices were for traditional servings and we were not disappointed. Flavours were robust. Dishes were well presented. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with time schedule great for meeting our theatre requirements.

We went for an early dinner before as show. Looking forward a leisurely meal with good food. How wrong were we!!!
We were shown to a tiny cramped table, even though the restaurant was clearly empty and we were well and truly early for the dinner crowd (4.45 pm).
Our order was taken and before our drinks arrived our spring rolls were on the table. They were very nice.
The drinks arrived almost with our main course. The chicken was mediocre and the pork was terrible. We had to ask if it was even pork, because it had the consistency of tripe. We were told yes. It was sent back as it didn't taste very good either.
When asked if the meal was ok we said no and the waitress laughed at us. So rude.
The only saving grace here was we didn't have to argue about not paying for that dish.
Extremely disappointed at this restaurant given the many others to choose from. We certainly won't be going back.

We often visit the Sydney Opera House and usually dine at one of the many restaurants lining the lower Macquarie Street area and Promenade of the House itself. We had not been for many years to The East but given an early start to a show that we had booked we felt that a quick light meal would have been good – and it was. The East is located close to the lower end of Macquarie Street overlooking the water at Circular Quay and offers both outside and indoor seating. The décor is not too fancy but the service and food was excellent and we will certainly be back. We had a number of appetisers rather than a big meal and together with some wine the amount was quite acceptable and we were in and out within a good time for our theatre. The menu offers the usual range of Chinese dishes and what we had was superb. Service was prompt, not to the extent of being pushy, but very good indeed. The wine list was small but wide of choice – can recommend the Watervale Riesling with your meal. It was very busy and we were lucky to get a table for two, after that people were being turned away without a reservation – next time we shall book. Can’t wait to return.
