There are restaurants and there are special restaurants. Foveaux is a special restaurant.
This restaurant keeps on delivering consistently, seamlessly, effortlessly. When we initially tried to book they were full but they said they would ring if things changed. They were true to their word.
One can tell that the staff likes working here. Each of them is comfortable in his or her job. The waitresses (they are female so they are waitresses, not wait-persons) are competent, pleasant and helpful. The staff is competent, pleasant and helpful. One feels they are trying to make one's visit a good experience. And they succeed.
The food is brilliant. Every dish. Every time. My kangaroo entree was faultless. My grilled trout on corn puree was art - orgasmic art. The potato puree was unmatched - no tricks, just exactly what potato puree should be (and usually isn't).
I have stated in previous reviews that truly great restaurants are generous. My wife reminisced to the waitress about the incredible marshmallows that used to be served as petit-fours (alas no longer). So what did the waitress do? - she went to the kitchen and returned with two of those marshmallows. Compliments of the chef. Impressive.
Finally, downstairs there is a bar that is a great spot for anyone who is into the elegant bar scene.
Go to Foveaux. You will have a very fine evening.
