Came here for dinner with my partner finally after having frequented this cafe for many years for breakfast/brunch. The place completely transforms in the evening, and the back courtyard provides a wonderful relaxed settling to have a lovely meal; with elegant table settings and warm lighting making for a wonderful ambience.

The food was terrific, entree of French Onion Soup; and for Mains we had the Pappardelle with Prosciutto / Vegetables / Feta & Steak Tartare which came with a side of sautéed potatoes. Both meals were generously portioned and extremely flavourful.

Desserts were great too - had Toffee Sticky Date Putting & Creme Brûlée infused with Cointreau.

The staff and owners definitely make you feel very welcome here, very relaxed atmosphere, high quality dining experience - would definitely recommend.

A friend suggested we try this cafe for brunch this morning after noticing the cute courtyard out the back. We arrived around 11am and could order off either the breakfast/brunch or lunch menu which was great. I ordered the omelette served with fresh baguette and they let me swap the ham for feta (no charge) as I’m vegetarian. My friend ordered the Camembert tartine. Our meals were absolutely fantastic, so tasty and so reasonable at $35 for 2 people including coffees. You won’t find better food and service on Crown St. Definitely recommend.

The layout of this cafe is odd - there is a corridor parallel to the street which runs along the back of the first section and joins Buster Brown cafe to adjoining cafes. To get to the toilet, you go next door to a different place. It is a small place, run by a French chef, Dominique Descat, who is a very good chef. The service is pleasant and the atmosphere relaxed and unhurried. The menu is decidedly French. Scallops were beautiful, but only two on the plate. Boeuf Bourguignon short rib was melt in the mouth - a BIG portion. Great vegetables on the side. Good wine list. It was nice, but I am not sure if I would return - very much for the Oxford Street crowd. But you can take your dog and the kids, no problem.

Not all French cafes in Australia are really French or they're stuck in some 1950s time warp of what a French cafe should be, but Buster Brown gets it pretty right for the 21st Century.
The menu is quite broad with most of the favourites - including delicious snails in sizzling garlic sauce - the food is well prepared and efficiently served by friendly Francophone staff.
The ambiance is relaxingly Gallic, especially if you choose to be in the courtyard marquee that’s draped with lights and strings of tricolours. And if there should be anything wrong, well it seems the owners/chefs actually enjoy visiting their guests to check that everything’s alright.
They’re licensed and have a small but reasonably well-priced range of suitable reds and whites from both France and Australia to make the evening complete. A great place to relax with good food, a very French way of eating.

This very French restaurant is a joy - brilliant food, great service, comfortable ambience. This was a special night for us and Chef Dominique did a great job. We had entrees of warm goat cheese salad and gravlax salmon. The gravlax was the chef's special and it was "wow". We followed with mains of Barramundi and the duck breast with orange sauce. Not only was the experience exquisite - the BYO charge of $5.50 pp is most reasonable (we brought a 1992 Laughing Magpie). A simply great night of French food.
