“Cheap and basic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2010

It was a bit of challenge to find, and a bit of squeeze to get up the stairs with a backpack. Room was very basic with just a double bed with a sheet, a desk and clothes rail. The floor was wooden and clean, but walls were a bit damp.
Showers and toilets are shared, but cleaned daily. However, there are queues in the morning. Rooms are also a bit noisy as they back onto George Street. A very convenient location, but quite pricey for what you get.

We stayed here for six nights the week before Christmas and regretted it. We had a private double room and the last three nights the rate doubled as it was Christmas and we found that we could have had a decent hotel room from wotif for the same price. The hostel was reasonably well positioned for the free bus to the harbour but in a very noisy location and as it was hot we had to have the window open so the noise from people and traffic outside kept us awake. The room was basic but clean.

The showers were mixed and peculiar as the nearest one didn't have a door so stepping out of the shower meant you were open to the people in the corridor apart from a plastic curtain. Breakfast was free but the kitchen/dining room were small for the size of the hostel and there was always someone cleaning the floor with a dirty mop while we were there. There was a small back enclosed courtyard but people would stand at the back door smoking which was not nice. There was nowhere to relax (although there was a downstairs bar/restaurant) and internally the hostel was quiet with no social atmosphere. There was free wifi but we couldn't wait to leave.

I had to move in here from another hostel, payed for 6 nights, stayed 5.
Great location, close to CBD and the main train station. Though it is a bit more expensive than the nearby hostels, it includes WiFi internet and a locker inside your neat room with no air conditioning.
Within an old building with lots of stairs and reduced common areas, on top of the most boring pub in town. The staff is all business and very religious with payments and timing. No packages, "no drinking allowed", no noise, nobody up after 11pm, no fun; the environment is that of a funeral.
I would recommend it for older travelers, couples, or whoever is tired of all the regular activities in hostels.
Definitely not recommended for people under the age of 90 (at least in spirit), people who are looking for fun, and those with an outgoing attitude.

Hotel was pretty basic but in a good location. Did an okay breakfast and had nice staff. Pretty pricey but then it was New Years Eve so so was everywhere else!

This is a great place to crash & sleep in the heart of Chinatown. A stone's throw from Paddy's market, for great deals on produce. You can hear citylife from your room. There was no airconditioning, but the weather was okay to have windows open. Free private lockers, and it was very clean. Observed routine cleaning. Small kitchen with limited outdoor accessibly. This hostel is only about 5 minutes from central station. all in all, it was a great starting point to my trip in australia and would stay there again.
