Been coming here since 1986, no matter where i move to and how far away it is, Newport is the beach I go to everytime. Ive travelled hours just for one day on the beach keeping the childhood memories alive.

Easy access to this beach, close to Barrenjoey road if you are driving, with a large car park, or catch the bus, lots of bus stops. Close to the shops, a good Coles express and other coffee shops and restaurants. A large playground with lots of seating, usually full of day trippers on weekends. The beach is long, well patrolled but can be choppy and rough depending on weather. Surf club with good, clean changing rooms. A popular beach.

We visit relatives in Newport Beach regularly and are spoilt because we can walk to and from the beach. This review is written as a visitor unable to be a 'freeloader' on relatives.
Sydney has so many nice beaches it's hard to differentiate. Newport Beach is a very nice beach but a bit unwelcoming to visitors. Traffic in the surrounding area is always congested. Facilities such as parks and toilets are showing their age, and parking seems solely reserved for residents. Even moving a couple of streets away from the beach is difficult, with everyone having the same idea, plus unconnected boat trailers/caravans taking up precious parking spaces. I prefer Sydney's southern beaches for less congestion and easier access.

Lovely overall.

I often go to Newport Beach with a takeaway lunch. Several times have even seen humpback whales and dolphins quite close to shore.

Walking from one end of Newport Beach to the other, is a fantastic workout.

There is a pool at one end. Lots of people doing laps there. There are basic changing rooms and toilets near the pool.

The sea is a bit rough. Good for surfers. But not so good for poor swimmers. They have lifeguards on duty.

I have heard that best to avoid on weekend mornings in summer, as completely overtaken by nippers. You cannot get in the pool or walk on the beach - nippers and parents everywhere.

There is early morning yoga classes at the surf club. Need to book.

The main problem for me, is the slope from the beach into the sea. Sometimes especially after strong weather, it can be banked up quite high. Couple of times now I have actually hurt my leg by pulling a muscle getting up the slope.

I prefer to walk at other beaches, as they are more flatter and even. Not that I get much chance to walk. I work as a sales rep and my run is the Northern Beaches. Normally too busy to go walking for pleasure. But do get a lot of takeaways and eat at beach.

At the opposite end of the beach (to the pool), you can climb up the cliff path and walk to the next beach being Bilgola. There is a good little café (cash only) at Bilgola and you can often see migrating humpback whales from the cliff top.

The walk is actually quite strenuous at both ends, due to the incline. A good workout but maybe best avoided if super unfit. First time I did it, I thought I would pass out! Also a LOT of unleased dogs, so watch out for poop.

Parking in Newport is a nightmare and expensive in summer. Best to park on one of the residential streets, and walk 10 minutes back to beach. Foamcrest Avenue normally has free parking, as does Myola Road.

A pleasant clean beach with a kids playground nearby. The beach is patrolled so it's safe. Water was quite rough today. Recommended.
