Owner description: Located by the Royal Botanic Gardens, the bench known as Mrs. Macquarie's Chair was carved out of sandstone in the early 1800s for Govenor Lachlan Macquarie's wife, Elizabeth. It became her favorite spot to look upon the harbour and serves that same purpose today for visitors who take a moment to rest there.

You’ll need to go to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair (also known as Lady Macquarie’s Chair) to really appreciate the beauty of SYDNEY. Admission is free. Located on the east side of the botanic garden, this place is a perfect spot for tourists to take selfies. For locals, it’s a good place to reflect how lucky we are to have such a magnificent harbour. At night, the view from here is so romantic. Love it. Go for a walk, appreciate the hundred year old trees, lovely surroundings and clean air. For tourists, this is a must do before you leave SYDNEY. I took photos on a cloudy day but the view was still picture perfect-no pollution, no smog.. thank you SYDNEY we love you!

We take all international visitors here and no matter how often you go, the view is breathtaking! Great spot to picnic, but be prepared to pay high $$$$$ for street parking.

The wife of the Governor of New South Wales, lamented Mrs Elizabeth Macquarie, sat on the benchand and watched the ships coming into Sydney harbour from, say, Cardiff. Also Wales, but the old and not the southern. What is the event? And she was knitting hook (when ships were not). She blew her nose, I thought, in the end. Fiction is complete...
