This place is popular with tourists , but great as a local to visit . Easily accessed by public rail . A long walk if you are frail , but otherwise lovely , passing the ferries and waterways . take in the breathtaking harbour or stop for an ice-cream or beverage at the many choices along the way . The Botanic gardens are superbly kept

This is one of my favourite walks in Sydney. It meanders along the foreshore with the botanic gardens on route. You can choose to walk any distance you like and there's also lots of spaces to simply sit under the trees and watch the other walkers go by.

Very scenic and worth doing it. We did it from botanical garden to Opera House and was facing the water all the time.

Beautiful route to run in the mornings or for a leisurely stroll in the afternoon. Spectacular views of the Opera House and the city from the Royal Botanic Gardens. Nice place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I was not prepared for the long walk from the Opera House to go exploring into the garden and almost turned around to go back to the hotel. So imagine my relief and delight when I came across a bright red shiny train also known as the "Choo Choo Express" at the Queen Elizabeth II gate (to the right side of the Opera House), which was ready to take off for a scenic ride into the garden. They were celebrating the 200th birthday of the garden and had beautiful flower motifs for the occasion. The ticket was just USD10, well worth it, as a tourist short on time it gave me the opportunity to take in the beautiful views and learn about some of the history/interesting facts from the train guide's commentary. There were also few stops on the way, I remember one was at a cafe within the botanical garden another at Mrs. Macquaries point. I wanted to get off at the latter stop, but it was the last train of the day which would mean a long walk back to the Opera House so I skipped it, something to keep in mind if you still want to catch the train back. Its a beautiful park, wish I had more time to spend there.
