“Backpackers near Central Station”
Reviewed 25 March 2012

The hostel is located close to Sydney's Central Station and is only a short walk from many of the city's malls and restaurants, as well as Darling Harbour. However, internet is expensive ($3.90 per hour), both for desktop and Wifi connections and it doesn't always work. The only way to get up to the rooms and kitchen is by elevator, and there are only two elevators for the entire building. Sometimes we had to wait more than 15 minutes to get an elevator, which is very inconvenient if you are in a rush. When we checked out and wanted to store our bags for a few hours we were told that we could rent a locker for 4 hours costing $7, the rate going up after that time. Then we asked another staff for storage and he let us store our luggage for free, so it really depends on who you talk to. It would be great if there was a bit more consistency with their rules.
The rooms are average size and have lockers. It's fairly easy to meet people at this hostel, so if you're traveling alone this is a good place to stay.

The wake up hostel ticks almost all the boxes for every kind of traveller and offers something for everyone.
The side bar in the basement has a pool table, food, quizzes and has offers on most days a week.
The other facilities such as the cafe on the ground level, the laundry facilities, kitchen and internet portals are handy too.
Other little touches such as the free city and beach tours and the voucher offers in the arrival pack were lovely too.
Only negatives were the bathroom facilities could be cleaned a little more often but on the whole its a really great hostel, and I would stay here again for sure.

Room Tip: The higher your floor, the less you can hear the music from the basement bar/club!

I stayed recently with my boyfriend in a private ensuite (714), fairly certain that's the smallest ensuite in existence but we really only needed somewhere to sleep so it was ok. As with all backpackers the rooms are a bit small and a bit noisy but that's to be expected.
My only issue is the aircon, its not the greatest in the building and the rooms get pretty warm when the sun blares in the summer time. Aside from that the staff are lovely, the bathroom sufficient and he location is perfect, close to china town/ darling harbour and right next to central station.

Room Tip: Try to get a high room, the lower down you are the more likely you are to hear the bar.

The staff at the desk were brilliant throughout which always makes a stay great.
Everything you could want is here, cinema room, kitchen (very clean), computers, Wi-Fi, great bathrooms, lockers in the rooms etc etc. Each person is given a key access card which allows them onto their floor or communal areas only so security is very good.

The location is pretty good right opposite Sydney central train station with direct links to the harbor and everything else.

There really isn't anything wrong with this hostel it's just a tiny bit on the pricey side but then most of Australia is really.

100% recommend.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good.

i have come and gone from this hostel probably close to 50 times in the last 5 years due to work commitments in Sydney, the simple fact is that i wont stay anywhere else. literally in the centre of town, close to everything you could want in the city and only a short train journey to the beach. awesomely safe feeling about it with swipe cards etc on doors and lifts, the staff are really helpful and about as friendly and fun as you can get and the place is CLEAN!

maybe a little more expensive then other places in the area but worth it when you consider all the extra free stuff they do everyday with tours around Sydney and bar activities etc. speaking of which, bar downstairs is great fun and good place to meet other travelers, big common areas and a restaurant, also internet access

Room Tip: bottom few floors are a bit noisy
