The beach is just 7 kilometers away from the city center. We enjoyed so much the view of the sunset and we had a great beach walk until almost 7:00 PM. For a while I forgot my problems by the cool breeze that brushed against my face during that time. I can say that Sydney Bondi Beach is a dream place for beach lovers... Ever...

Bondi has good swimming and there's always the opportunity for a bit of celebrity spotting. On a nice summer day you can barely move for tourists and locals, both in the water and on the beach. The shops along the beach are really expensive.

This place has become the tourist meca of the world, go to Manly if you want a beach!

Hi AU2CA,

Thanks for your comments.

I agree Manly is a great beach but both Manly and Bondi can get busy during peak periods (like December when you visited). That's the best time to enjoy the buzzing summer energy.

If you don't like that kind of vibe, perhaps you should visit in Autumn (March/April) when the crowds drop off, the water is still warm and there's a more relaxed feel to the place. But still plenty to do to keep you entertained! And Spring is gorgeous too - gorgeous sunny days leading up to the excitement and heat of summer.

The feel of Bondi and Manly are very different too. In Manly, there are many hotels along the waterfront, it's much bigger and the mall is full of big brand shopping. Bondi tends to have a smaller, community feel - a little more edgy, full of colour and character.

Both are great - it just depends what you prefer.

Either way, I hope you visit Bondi again in quieter times and enjoy your stay!

I visited Watson's Bay and Bondi Beach on the same day. They gave me totally different feelings. Bondi Beach is a place that I can just lay down on the beach for whole day to release the working pressure!

Ok, so we hit Bondi on the open top bus tour, and thus only had a couple of hours, so it was a quick wander around. Secondly, I don't surf, the waves weren't good that day, and the the look of the beach itself was no better that tens of other beaches we saw during the course of our holiday. There were people surfing and the vibe of the place was young and active, and it was lovely to see so many kids learning to swim / surf with such a well organised and safety concious backup, but even that appears to happen all around Australia's coastline; Bondi is no different. Some of the seafront looked shabby, in gerneral the shops were nothing special, and we really felt no compulsion to stay any longer than we had to. Sorry Bondi - one of our few regrets...
