“Perfect little oasis within the bustle...”
Reviewed 21 July 2012

We loved this little place in the middle of everything! We only had 1 night to spend, and we were very happy we chose Simpsons. The staff were all welcoming and friendly, and regardless of how absurd my questions may have been, they were only too happy to accommodate us. We both wish we had a few more days just to relax in the hotel and spend time in the reading room - a quaint and adoring step back in time that simply challenged you to enter, whisper, and relax...

Loved the breakfast experience and we loved the fact that is was so peaceful once inside. I recommend Simpsons to anyone who wants a time out regardless of their reason for being in the middle of Sydney.

Thanks to all, and we will be back whenever we are in the area.
Best wishes,
Peter & Jane

Thankyou Peter and Jane.

It is always rewarding to an Innkeeper to hear positive feedback from guests.

We look forward to welcoming you back sometime in the future, hopefully for a longer stay if you have the time, to enjoy our peaceful "olde worlde" atmosphere in busy, exciting Sydney.

I really liked this place. The room we stayed in (cloud room) was very spacious and well appointed. The location is marvellous. It's right in the heart of the most vibrant part of Sydney, with so many great restaurants and cafes literally on your doorstep. Easy and beautiful walk into the city through the Botanic Gardens. Easy walk in the other direction to Elizabeth and Rushcutters Bay. Friendly hosts. Only drawback was the noise from people out and about on the Saturday night. Sunday night was quiet. Would recommend this place to those wanting to experience Sydney night life and great food.

We are glad that these guests enjoyed their time with us, and the Potts Point area.

We were a little surprised about the Saturday noise comment. There is no doubt that Potts Point is very busy on Saturday, with restaurant diners especially, but "Simpsons" is fortunately situated away from the busiest areas, and is shielded a little by being set back from the road, but certainly rooms at the front are more likely to hear any ambient noise.

We do appreciate it when guests give us their feedback.

Delightful week-long stay, consistent with the many fine reviews posted by other TripAdvisor members. Our Dormer room was exactly as requested, fresh and larger than expected. Small fridge in room was perfect for staging picnics for the next day. In addition to being welcomed by hosts Kieth and/or Ree, enjoy the fastidious breakfast bar overseen by Damian, and excellent housekeeping by long-time employee Jauna.

Convenient Woolworth’s grocery is a short two-block walk. Bus Stop for Sydney Bus 311 is equally proximate, running at least every 30 minutes throughout the day, connecting with both Sydney Central Station or the Central Business District.

Tip: “My Multi 3” New South Wales Transit Pass will take you virtually anywhere in and around Sydney that you want to go. Pass covers unlimited use of Ferries, Buses, Trains, and Tram, including the two-hour train ride to Blue Mountains National Park and passage on Blue Mountain Bus Company bus to Echo Point and/or Scenic World.

Also included: Ferry to Taronga Zoo and/or Manly, both great “tours” of Sydney Harbour, and at zero additional cost, compared to tourist tour-boat offerings.

One morning we hopped a train from Central Station, 30-min West to Parramatta, caught the free Shuttle Bus from the rail station to Parramatta’s ferry dock, then enjoyed the 1-hour ferry ride on the Parramatta River, cruising under the Sydney Harbour bridge to Circular Quay. Again, all included in the My Multi 3 pass. It's a bargain at $60AUD for 7-days; single day passes also available. If arriving by air, you can buy at the Airport Link station at the airport, or in the City at major rail stations. Details here: http://www.131500.com.au

What a helpful Review, with some well thought-out travel tips, and local advice. Yes, Potts Point is a convenient neighborhood as we often tell people.

I had heard of the Multi-3 Pass, but did not realise it was such good value and covered so much.

We will certainly pass on Austin's tips. Thankyou Austin, and also thankyou for your kind words. It is gratifying to know that guests have enjoyed their time in Sydney, and at "Simpsons" ! We are proud of both!

We remember this charming Swiss couple, and are glad that liked Sydney and us, and especially glad that they said they would stay again.

The best recomendation of all is a returning guest ! We love them (but of course we love new, first-time guests just as much !)

Thankyou Werner and Rosmarie !

Another glowing review probably adds little at this point, but I'll try to express why we find Simpson's so special. First the house itself is beautiful. It has lovely common rooms and the bedrooms (this is our second stay and we've stayed in three separate rooms) are very roomy, clean and have extra touches like small tables and extra chairs to make sure there are places for everything and comfortable places to sit.. Ree and Keith were mostly on hand during our most recent visit. As many have noted, the neighborhood is great. There are many good restaurants, some even reasonably priced, less than five minutes walk away. Kings Cross is close at hand and while it is upgrading, it still has an edge that is interesting to observe, if not partake of. We often walked to the CBD or to the Botanical Garden or the Circular Quay, 'tho the 311 bus is handy (either on Macleay Street or down the stairs on Victoria Street) and inexpensive and reaches all the same locations (it doesn't run that often in the evening however). Don't miss taking the 333 bus to Bondi Beach and the coastal walk from Bondi to Coogee Beach where yhou can get a good meal at Barzura. at reasonable rates.
This hotel is really too personal to be called a hotel. It is a very welcoming home with great hosts and very deserving of its rating, mostly by reason of the people who are there to run it.

Room Tip: They are all good that I have seen. Caroline's Room on the top floor is very pleasant and is th...

How nice of these guests to be so complimentary.

We do like our lovely old house, with its comfortable "lived-in" rooms, but do realise that it is not chic nor ultra-modern, and there are a few paint chips, old fashioned cupboards, etc., part of which we like to think is the charm of a century-old mansion. That said, we do try to keep on top of maintenance, and we are lucky to have fastidious housekeeping staff who keep the house in excellent shape.

We are also fortunate to be situated in a very interesting area, convenient to the city and all major attractions.

We do appreciate the kind comments of these guests, coming from one of the world's most sophisticated cities, and for them taking the time to write about their impressions. We are glad that they enjoyed their time here.
