This walk takes you from the tourist bustle of Manly to what feels like the heart of the Australian bush in little more than half an hour. From Manly, the Scenic Walkway climbs past waterfront homes and cuts through the dense bush on Dobroyd Head. We saw a pelican far below on the harbour, a skink and an Eastern Water Dragon (large lizard). Where a side path turns off towards Grotto Point, the underlying sandstone breaks the surface and you can see Aboriginal rock carvings of fish and kangaroos.

The path emerges from the bush and drops towards a small beach at Castle Rock, and from there it's harder going across beach and rocks to Clontarf. At high tide, it may be impossible to get all the way round. We made it to Clontarf Marina where the Sandy Bear cafe serves fish and burgers with amazing beer battered chips.

The atmosphere walking along this strip is magical. As you arrive on the Manly ferry cross the road and head straight ahead toward the beach. There are many shops and eating places along this strip. There are water sprays for the children to play in. There is seating in the shade for people watching and a few pubs to enjoy a cold beer.

Had a chance to go to Manly Peninsula on the Manly ferry. Lots of nice restaurants, with really taste Perch. A really nice white sandy beach, with nice waves. It does have a rip tide, so no swimming out.

I have done this walk a number of times and I never get tired of it. The views are spectacular and there are plenty of nice spots to stop along the way. While there is a decent amount of shade along the walk, I'd still recommend ensuring you wear plenty of sunscreen. Castle rock is a nice beach to stop at for a swim.
The path is quite popular, but not as crowded as the Bondi to Coogee walk. There is a mixture of runners and walkers that use the path. You can often see lizards and birds alongside the track. Allow a few hours if you are planning to do the full length of the track, and I'd recommend rewarding yourself with an ice cream or a coffee in Manly when you're done.
