“Great food”
Reviewed 8 April 2012

Mercure Sydney is always a great place to stay and central to everything. The rooms are comfortable and the staff are always nice. The food there has to be our favourite part especially the buffet breakfasts.

I'm writing this from the Mercure now. We paid extra for a city view. I suggest you do the same - I'm from Sydney and it's very different from up here.
I liked:
Check-in : Courteous, quick, efficient
Location: Central Station, Broadway, Chinatown and Pitt St are all nearby. Newtown is a brisk walk away.
Tidy, clean room.
On the twelfth floor, no serious traffic noise.
I didn't like:
The bathroom is somewhat antiquated, but not dirty or anything like that.
There don't seem to be any smoking rooms, which would be aggravating if you smoke.
Internet access is diabolically expensive.
The air conditioning is quite loud, not necessarily a bad thing. It can be quite soporific.
The price was a little steep, but it's Easter Saturday and you may fare better.

I can thoroughly recommend the Mercure.

Room Tip: City view, as high as possible.

Have been to Sydney a few times. This is probably the best hotel have stayed in based on a mixture of price, room, location and service. I would come here again.

Top point for myself was the location near the station. A great train service meant easy to get out of town - plus I even lazily caught the train/underground up to Town Hall a couple of times (even though just one stop up). Anything to avoid the continual waiting at road crossings! (You cannot hear the station at all).

A 14th floor room facing the city was an added bonus.

I checked in early (around 06h30) due to my flight and this was not even mentioned. I liked that. After 24hrs of travelling I was looking forward to a nice shower. So full marks there.

As ever internet connection and charges remain somewhat behind-the-times. Internet, in this day and age, should be free in places like this - plus the connection speed should be faster. Alas, this seems to be the norm in Australia.

Room Tip: Ask for a top floor (or the higher the better) and facing the city.
