“Won't stay here again”

I recently stayed here for the first time, having become an Ambassador Club member. The hotel amenites and service was poor. Firstly the room was small, particularly the bathroom.In my view, it is not acceptable for a 5 star rated hotel to have a shower over the bath with a shower curtain. The bed was hard. I don't think the air conditioning was working properly because the room was constantly cold and smelt a little musty.Our TV was not working properly and it took over an hour for someone to be sent to the room to fix it. Our telephone also broke. There is no free wifi anywhere in the hotel, not even the business centre. The service on the doors was patchy, sometimes taxi doors were opened for you, other times not. The service in the hotel bar was slow. On our last night there, I asked if it was possible to arrange to have a drink in the Club lounge to experience the facilities - I was told by front desk (without even checking wiht the Club bar) that they "may" be able to do something after 8pm (this was too late as we had dinner booked at that time), but otherwise this was not possible as the Club bar was too busy. All in all, I questioned the value and point of being an Ambassador Club member because I received absolutely no recognition or special service. I usually stay at the Sheraton on the Park when I visit Sydney and will return there next time. I would not return to the Intercontinental and do not recommend it.

We again had the pleasure of staying in this wonderful hotel for the weekend. From check in to departure the staff went out of their way to be personable and obliging. We had two rooms (we had requested interconnecting but this did not happen) and both were clean, especially the bathroom. The Valet parking was done without fuss and our luggage to our rooms and hanging clothes in the wardrobe was also done with the minimum of fuss and disruption. We were celebrating a significant event and decided to have the seafood buffet in Cafe Opera on Friday evening, what a wonderful selection of seafood and other foods, you would be very hard pressed not to find something to eat. The lobster was exceptional and cooked to order. Again the restaurant staff were efficient and knowlegable, advising suitable matching wines etc. Unlike other reviews we considered $38-00 for breakfast to be good value as you certainly didn't need to worry about lunch and there were many fresh and healthy items available as well as the usual cooked breakfast items, a chef is available to cook items to order if that is what you wish. Tea is real leaves and coffee made to order and brought to the table hot and freshly made. We will certainly continue to use the Intercontinental as our accomodation choice when travelling to Sydney.

We stayed here after a night out on the town. Room was dated and scruffy (scuffs on the wall, torn lamp). Really wouldn't recommend this place for a romantic stay but probably okay for business as the location is perfect.

Location was great, but...
1. Rooms, especially the bathroom, was very dated. Showers was terrible, complete lack of water pressure.
2. When you are settling your bill, you are notified of a 1.5% credit card charge unless payment is by cash or local EFTPOS! This basically seems like a ploy that gouges all foreign guests.

Amazing hotel.
Overlooks the bay, great location, as always, the staff was great. very polite and very helpful.
Flawless as always.

Room Tip: The Higher the better, ask for the bay view...
