“Sensational view and great room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 May 2012

A great property . The views from the harbour veiw rooms are nothing less than sensational! The bathroom great and King bed and pillows extra comfortable. The buffet breakfast at Cafe Mix was excellent. Very fresh and loads of variety. Complimentary champagne in our room for my birthday was also a nice touch.

Room Tip: Executive Harbour rooms are floors 20 and up - worth the extra money.

Spent the 1st week of April sightseeing in the Sydney area and stayed at the Shangi-La ( THE ROCKS). Great location to use as a jumping off point for tourist locations, such as the Harbor, beaches such as Bondi and Manly, and a multitude of shopping areas. The hotel was fabulous-clean, easily accessible, high quality and modern with a very helpful staff.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking Sydney Harbor offer a great view

We got stranded in Sydney for two days and this was an emergency pick from the airport on a Saturday night. This was a fabulous hotel to get stranded in, Views over the harbour and opera house, 5 minute walk to circular quay and you're in the Rocks area and surrounded by Pubs, shops and eateries. Luckily we were there on a Sunday and so were able to walk to the markets then down to the harbour to sit and enjoy the view. Loved our room, best pillows ever, beautiful bathroom, lots of marble, sat outside with our coffee downstairs in the mornings and had drinks in the bar at night, but went out to eat because there was such choice close by. The staff were very friendly and only a 15 minute trip to the airport, and much better than staying close to the airport. Couldn't have been stranded anywhere better, it was its own mini holiday.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the harbour.

Stayed here for 2 nights during Anzac Day festivities and was a perfect location for all the ceremonies, parades, two-up matches and pubs in The Rocks (which are always crowded, but always a fantastic atmosphere). For us walking is not a problem, however The Rocks isnt exactly flat and the hotel is a steep incline walk up from George St and The Rocks main area. If you are unable to/dont wish to walk up and down hills/stairs then the location of the hotel might be a bit inconvienient, although saying that they can organise a taxi for you.
We didnt have a view over the harbour - our view was to the river and over the Eastern Distributor, which although wasnt as stunning as the harbour wasnt terrible either and had excellent light into the room. Noise was never a problem. If you can ask for a room as high up as possible as its always a better view no matter what side youre on.
Room was comfortable and spacious. Lots of room to store clothing/luggage etc. Bathroom was very nice. Hotel overall was clean and staff were very friendly.
Horizon bar hosts an amazing view over the harbour and if you can get a seat early enough near the window then you probably wont want to leave. Drinks are a bit on the pricey side however they have a great cocktail list.
We did not eat at the restaurant however we did get room service. While any room service meal is going to be expensive, the taste really was delicious and generous portions.
Overall i would recommend this hotel, however staying on the harbour side of the hotel would probably enhance your experience.

I completely agree with a former reviewer stating that this hotel is a "safe bet". Quality is very good but nothing special, just a typical upper end business hotel. Upside is the location and the harbor view rooms (greeeeaaaaat harbor and opera view really), downside maybe the breakfast which is way too overcrwoded. Waiters cant really deal with the crowds (eg cheese platter stayed empty, plates stay on the tables although ready to be brought away etc.)
