“The sydney's bridge view were awesome...!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2012

I just got lucky that they guarantee an early check in for my group but unfortunately my room were not ready by the time i arrived. After almost an hour of waiting and the rest of the group are snoring away i'm still sitting at the lobby waiting for the room. But finally the last choice were not always bad choice,I got the room on the executive floor..!! The view were stunning and the bed were very comfy..
The internet was free but shame, only in the lobby area..

Room Tip: try get the room facing the harbor.

We stayed in this hotel in January 2012 for two nights. mainly because we wanted a view of the harbour and not far to walk to the various attractions. The room was beautiful and clean and we had the most fantastic view of the Opera House and part of the harbour. We found the staff quite good but unfortunately it rained most of our stay, but the hotel can't do anything about that as its part of travelling. The hotel is one block back from Circular Quay proper and is in a fantastic position for you to be able to walk down to the Quay to see all the buskers, get a ferry to go around the harbour, walk to The Rocks Area (which is something no one should miss) and also walk around to the Opera House. It also is very well serviced by transport and the train service was very good and you could travel to the north shore by either ferry or train. The train was on the main line to go to the Central Station where you could also connect to trains to go anywhere you wanted. We found this hotel to be in the perfect position to be able to experience everything Sydney has to offer, and would recommend it to everyone. And don't forget all the resturants you have the choice of......

Checked in early hours of 7th June 2012 as part of a group. Front office staff member who checked us in approached us "huffing and puffing" and started off dictating terms (see below as to why).
Body language, facial expresions and tone of voice was not acceptable at in customer service and was certainly not a good first impression at all..

Due to a misunderstaning with a previous guest who had checked out same morning, the staff member (by the name of "Boonyavat") was throwing out all the details of the conflict to the us-The new guests of the hotel. We felt he was warning us!! He even went to the extent of stating, that the previous guest took his name for a complaint, and that he wrote down the guest name for a counter complaint......we, the new guests are NOT interested in these!! This was unprofessionalism at its best!

Hotel explains the internet payment options in a very confusing manner. Hotel calls the it the "Complimentory connection" but at a charge of AUD $ 9.95???? It is understood, hotel is aware of its policies, but guests are NOT....so explain details correctly!

key cards:

I was issued key cards 4 times throughout my 24hr stay. They simply did not work. Security had to open the door everytime I needed to get in. No empathy-No Smile-No apology at all ! All what they asked was quote "Are you leaving the room today" unquote. wake up "Marriott Sydney Harbour" guests check in to a hotel, not to a prison!

I did not agree with the staff conduct of the hotel and I did speak to the staff member in question, also to Johanna, who I was introduced to as the "manager" and mentioned that the way customers are dealt with as "A service provider" was appalling". They nodded their heads in agreement, however a simple apology for all the inconvenience/bad attitude was nowhere to be found.

In fairness, Hotel is conveniently located in Sydney. property is mainatin clean. I was content with the room.

I am very certain Sydney could offer better service (most of all, better attitude) than this.

Room Tip: A total non smoking property.

First off, I have elite status with Marriott which gets me access to the executive lounge. With that out of the way, the hotel is in a great location - right beside Circular Quay which gives you access to the ferries, the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and The Rocks. We stayed twice - the first time our room had a fantastic view of Harbour Bridge, the second time of the Opera House. We were lucky to be staying during the Festival of Lights which made he views even better. The rooms were a decent size and very comfortable. We dined at the Icons restaurant one night (too exhausted to go out) and it was a disaster. The kids ordered chicken nuggets from the children's menu, and they were appalling. Worse than McDonalds is what they said. They had finished their dinner before our dinner arrived - no explanation as to why they served the main course at different times. The entrees my wife and I had were of low quality and we couldn't finish them. They push their seafood buffet, so I guess if you don't take that option, you're asking for trouble. The serving staff gave the impression they didn't want to be there and really didn't want to deal with customers. I wanted to tell them how bad the experience was, but they didn't want to hear it. Enough of the bad - the rest of the experience was awesome. We tried the more casual dining experience of the lobby bar - what a difference. They all made us feel very welcome, and went out of their way to take care of us. Special mention for Simon who was great. The top experience was the executive lounge - unlike the US concierge lounge, alcohol is free in the lounge. The breakfast was good - the kids looked forward to it every day. All the staff were brilliant, but we have to give Rody a special mention. She gave the kids some australian plush toys, made sure everything was perfect for us, and when we mentioned our experience at the Icons restaurant, she insisted on following up (we were so over the restaurant we really didn't care either way). We returned to our room to find desserts for the kids, desserts for the adults and a letter from the Icons restaurant manager asking us to return for a free meal. It was a lovely surprise. We didn't take them up on the offer of trying Icons again, but it was nice to feel they wanted to at least make things right. All in all, a great hotel for a family vacation - I will add the fact that access to the executive lounge was a huge plus. One last thing on the executive lounge - the views of the bridge and the Opera House are amazing. Best views of any Marriott lounge I've been in.

Like what others have mentioned, hotel's location is great, it's just abt 5 mins walk to the Circular Quay where you can find ferries, trains, buses with ease.. George Str. , or The Rocks, is just about 2 blocks away. There are few convenient stores just opposites the road, great for picking up drinks or snacks anytime..
Other than that, the room is pretty small, no bathtub so kids were a lil disappointed. We (with 2 kids) arrived at about 1030AM, and they couldn't settle a room (requested high floor during reservation) for us until 1PM+ Kids were exhausted after 9+ hrs night flight so the service wasn't impressive at all! Buffet breakfast is dull, with little to no change on the foods during our 5 days stay.

Room Tip: You can Pay a little more for a nice room facing the Opera House.. But I don't find it worth the...
