This is an historic hotel and, being that there are rules about remodeling historic buildings, it does show it's age. This was not a problem for my family because of the location. From the pool on the top of the hotel, you can see the bridge and Opera House. It's a short walk from the bridge, Opera House, and Central station. There are parks, restaurants, and souvenir shops conveniently located by there also. If we ever go back to Sydney we will stay here again.

Dear ahawaii2017,

Many thanks for taking your time to review our Hotel in such detail.

The Holiday Inn Old Sydney is a heritage listed building located in the oldest area of the city known more as The Rocks. We are thrilled to read that you enjoyed the fantastic views from the roof top, and our location exceeded your expectations.

May we have another opportunity to welcome you back.

It was an amazing hotel with an impeccable location, comfortable bed, friendly staff, and a fabulous roof top pool with views of the iconic Opera House. The employees at the hotel were all wonderful. Our room was basic and cramped, but the bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. We had a selection of either a firm or soft pillow. The bathroom was spacious enough to squeeze the Pack n Play (provided by the hotel) into, which was fabulous because it created a dark environment for my toddler's naps and bedtime during our 3-night stay.

The best part of the hotel was its impeccable location positioned between the Harbour Ridge and the Opera House and its fabulous rooftop pool that offered spectacular views of the city and the Sydney Opera House. The hotel was conveniently located near shops, cafes, restaurants and the ferries to take travelers to Manly Beach, Watson's Bay, Taronga Zoo, or just a pleasant cruise through the Harbour. It was only a 10 minute walk to the iconic Opera House, which was perfect for our purposes since we always preferred walking.

Complimentary buffet breakfast was included, which was amazing. The breakfast included omelettes, scrambled eggs, toast, croissants and other pastries, French toast, pancakes, sausage, bacon, juice, mushrooms. The highchair was equipped with its own tray and the hotel offered special plastic plates, bowl and spoons for children, which my son loved.

Our favorite part of the hotel was the rooftop pool with views of the Opera House. We enjoyed splashing around in the pool with spectacular views. We ordered take out from a nearby Italian restaurant our last night at the hotel and brought it up to eat to enjoy views of the Opera House and the city. It was one of our best nights of our trip.

This could be the best middle to upper brand hotel in the Sydney Rocks area. The location could not be better, it is a listed building with an amazing roof pool overlooking the harbor and sat in the middle of multiple world class restaurants and a great artisan market. The communal areas are to an OK standard and the staff do an amazing job but sadly could not compensate for the flaky rooms and aging infrastructure. The owners of this franchise need to reinvest, I do not know how it got passed the last IHG group audit. The rooms were unclean and the condition fall well short of the minimum standard. See attached photo’s, this is defined by the manager as the best the hotel has to offer. I had a terrible meal in the restaurant, this how bad it was………. I arrived late, was starving and exhausted from my travels. Being an X-military type I am not a fussy eater and look at the big picture when it comes to a quick meal. The “offering” was so dire I sent it back and went to bed via the vending machine……The only reason I did no re-locate is because I had set up several meetings that were too complicated to re-book……..Safe to say I ate all other meals outside of the hotel………..What a rip off, come chaps, pull your socks up!!!!!!!!

Dear jonathan r,

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review of your stay. We are glad to hear the location of our hotel exceeded your expectations, the hotel is in the best location for a visitor to Sydney with the only roof top space, pool and viewing platform of any hotel in Sydney which offers views over the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
However, I'm sorry we fell below your expectation regarding the menu offering and food quality. Since your last visit we have also launched a new menu which has received great feedback through our guests. We will look into these concerns. We take all reviews positive and negative very seriously, and your feedback will help us improve for our next guest or your next visit.
