“Wonderful food and experience”
Reviewed 22 April 2012

We traveled to Sydney on our honeymoon and made reservations here before we left the states. We found the service and food to be absolutely excellent. The waiter was very attentive, knowledgeable and not pushy at all. He allowed us to take our time and visited the table just enough to make us feel well served but not overwhelmed.

“THE benchmark for Value in Sydney!”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

If you're looking for a classy degustation menu in Sydney with great food and wine pairings, honestly I don't think you could do better than here.

Let's face it: Sydney is terminally overpriced (not helped by the resurgent AUD!), but having dined at some of the other fabled institutions of this city, I can report that.... OK maybe the wines fall slightly short of the biggest names, but then again we are talking about 10-15% less marginal enjoyment versus 100% diff in price!

And the food I would say is definitely on par with the big boys. If you're familiar with Europe's finest, perhaps the flavours would not be as bold/surprising, but they are VERY competently executed. As for the desserts that everybody mentions: well, they make you throw your hands up and wonder How Did They Make it Taste So Good?

Atmosphere is refined but still casual, and in my book this is a definite plus. Who wants to eat in silence with a bunch of suits anyway!

All in a fabulous place.... Get your booking in before they become white hot and implement some stupid reservation system ;)

“Do not miss this!”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

I went ahead with the 7 Course Degustation Menu with some additions.

To kick things off, I was served with an amuse bouche of Corn velouté with herb oil. Not really an amuse bouche, as it was too large.  I found it a bit too salty and the herb oil really did not come through. I think this was more of an after thought than anything else. My palate was not "amused"!

Salad of beetroot and endive, whipped baw baw blue cheese, hazelnut and pear.
Well composed dish, the blue cheese was very good, but remember to mix it up with the salad as it will be hiding at the bottom of the dish! And of course, hard the pear to start and hazelnut to finish the dish!

Steamed red spot whiting, crab velouté, Globe artichokes, fennel and lettuce. The dish was slightly change with peas rather than lettuce, I think than lettuce would have been much better as the peas were too crunchy when accompanying the delicate fish. The whitting fish was light, fluffy and gorgeous! The taste of the crab also came through the dish well. Good dish to follow the salad.

Pan seared Hiramasa kingfish, Jerusalem artichoke, ham hock and Brussels sprouts
Dish was well executed, the yellowtail skin was very crispy! Ham hock was a bit salty, but the smokiness was very nice.

Cannelloni of ox tail, pickled veal tongue, smoked scallops, horseradish and kohlrabi
The veal tongue was out of this world, thin, tender, tasty (marinated in red wine and braised) and the edge was caramelized. Yummy yummy! This is the best dish of all!

Slow cooked Glenloth farm pheasant, braised endive, raisin, caper and grand marnier
Slightly disappointing dish as the pheasant was not as gamey as I would have expected and a bit on the tough side. More I think to do with the source of the meat than the cooking, as far as I know Glenloth farms only process the birds and don't farm them!

Koolang wagyu short rib, parsnips, purple carrots and cabbage
Great dish! The braised short rib went very well with the sautéed cabbage. Good combo!

Carob, apple marshmallow and ginger beer sorbet
Nice and refreshing per dessert! Citrus, fizzy, wonderful!

Warm 68 percent alto beni zokoko chocolate pudding, honeycomb and pear sorbet
This is to die for! Must eat! Ozzing out chocolate sauce!!!! Highlight of the meal!

Service was professional and attentive, my waiter was very knowledgable on the menu and the food.

All in all, an excellent restaurant that you must not miss if you were in Sydney! If you just want a few dishes, I would recommend the following dishes:
Salad of beetroot and endive
Cannelloni of ox tail and pickled veal tongue
Chocolate Pudding
Their website has their menu www.quartertwentyone.com so you can have a look before you go!

Happy eating!

“An Airconditioning Icebox”
Reviewed 25 March 2012

We had the 7 course degustation with matched wine. The food was ok but not amazing. Moderately over-priced for what it was at $140 per person. Was mostly distracted from the food and conversation by the ice-cold conditions. Our waiter informed us they are part of the general shopping-mall air-conditioning and have no control over the temperature- so wrap up before you come here!

It is an unusual experience to dine in this restaurant which is in the corner of the food hall for the Westfield shopping-centre, after the rest of the shopping mall has closed. There are no bathrooms- you are directed to the public toilets across the food hall.

“New York style eating in the Sydney CBD”
Reviewed 18 March 2012

A stylish modern restaurant, happily located right in the Sydney CBD's newest Westfield shopping centre. Fabulous food - small menu, good wine list; extremely attentive staff. Visited recently with my daughter-in-law and grandson and they fell over backwards to look after us, a refreshing experience. Have been several times with different groups of friends, and will keep coming back.
